Relaxing Stay

This was my first stay at The Umstead and was very pleased. The hotel was just beautiful. The pool and the mojitos (yum) were very relaxing. The staff was extremely nice and professional. We arrived for breakfast a few minutes after they'd stopped serving, so the hostess asked the chef if we could still dine and it was no problem. My only negative was the concierge whose demeanor didn't match the rest of the staff. She wasn't horrible but everyone else bent over backwards to be accommodating so she wasn't the best face (at that moment) for such a great stay. Next time I'll go to the spa. I hear it's fabulous.

My wife and I stayed here over the holidays while visiting family in the area. We really enjoyed the hotel. The rooms were well furnished and very quiet. The staff was always polite and friendly. I stay in 50-60 hotels a year and would put this one in the top 5. One suggestion I would make is to have more variety in the bar food menu (the fried pickles are worth trying). Perfect Escapes had a great deal on the hotel and I will look to book the hotel through them on future trips.
