A true gem of ecotourism, Tortuguero National Park, established in 1970, aims to protect endangered sea turtles that come to lay their eggs on its beaches. This exceptional territory, comprising a vast network of canals, rivers, and lagoons, hosts a mosaic of ecosystems between tropical forest, freshwater environments, and marine areas, a paradise for nature lovers and researchers.

En route, a stop is planned at Guápiles to enjoy a traditional Costa Rican breakfast in a private local restaurant. The journey then continues to the quay, where you will embark on a pleasant boat trip to Tortuguero. This aquatic journey offers an immersive introduction to the tropical forest: be amazed by the lush hues of the landscape and the richness of the surrounding wildlife.

Welcome to Tortuguero

Upon arrival at the lodge, check in, settle comfortably into your room, and then enjoy a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, explore the charming village of Tortuguero with your local guide. This unique village, with about 500 inhabitants, is nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the park's tranquil canals. Here, there are no cars: only footpaths that enhance the peaceful and authentic atmosphere of the place. Stroll through the colourful streets, interact with the warm locals, and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of this captivating island community.

Estimated duration: approximately 3 hours by road and 1.5 hours by boat.

The travel time is indicative and may vary depending on the port of embarkation or disembarkation of passengers.

Wake up early to experience an unforgettable morning in the heart of nature. At the first light of day, meet the guide for a boat excursion through the stunning canals of Tortuguero National Park (entry included).

As the jungle awakens to the song of birds and the sounds of wildlife, be enchanted by the magical atmosphere of the sunrise. With camera in hand, capture spectacular scenes while silently gliding over calm waters, in the midst of a labyrinth of canals, lagoons, and lush tropical forests, accompanied by a passionate naturalist guide.

Tortuguero is one of the country's richest biodiversity sanctuaries, home to 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles, and 60 species of mammals. Keep an eye out: you might spot monkeys, sloths, caimans, toucans, macaws, iguanas, and many other fascinating creatures freely roaming this unique ecosystem.

Back at the lodge, enjoy a well-deserved breakfast in a peaceful setting.

In the morning, at the agreed time, the guide will take you for a walk through the lodge's private trails. Along the way, you may encounter monkeys, sloths, toucans, frogs, and a wide variety of exotic plants. This hike is ideal for nature lovers wishing to discover up close the beauty and wonders of the Costa Rican rainforest.

The rest of the day is free to enjoy the last afternoon in Tortuguero.

After breakfast, check out of the room and prepare to continue the adventure. You will leave Tortuguero aboard a transfer that combines boat and land transport towards Guápiles.

The journey takes about two hours, but this duration may vary depending on the boarding or disembarkation port used.

Upon arrival in Guápiles, a traditional Costa Rican lunch will be served in a local restaurant. It is here, around 1:00 PM, that a representative from the car rental agency will meet you to hand over the rental vehicle. They will also provide all the necessary information to set off on the road with peace of mind.

You will then begin your self-drive tour towards La Fortuna, a small town located at the foot of the majestic Arenal Volcano. The journey takes about two hours and will allow you to traverse the lush landscapes typical of the northern region of Costa Rica.

Before December 2010, Arenal was among the ten most active volcanoes in the world, offering an impressive natural spectacle with its incandescent lava flows and ash plumes. Although volcanic activity has calmed, the site remains a must-see, with its imposing silhouette and occasional fumaroles.

Upon arrival in La Fortuna, check into the hotel, then enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to relax, explore the surroundings, or simply appreciate the natural beauty around you.

Farewell Costa Rica!

Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel before departing and driving back to the car rental agency near the airport.

Drive your rental vehicle to the Belén rental agency, located near San José Airport. Once there, return your vehicle and complete the necessary paperwork.

After returning the vehicle, a shared shuttle will take you from the rental agency to the airport, ensuring a smooth transition for your return flight.

We recommend booking your departure flights after 1 PM.

Luggage Information

Hand Luggage: Considered as cabin baggage if it meets the following criteria:

• Maximum Dimensions: 50 cm x 40 cm x 30 cm (total of 120 cm for the sum of height + width + depth)
• Maximum Weight: 4.5 kg for hand luggage and 18 kg for checked luggage

Excess Baggage and Dimensions

• Excess Weight: If a passenger's luggage exceeds the allowed limit, an additional charge will be applied by SANSA according to the chosen rate, for each extra kilo.
• Excess Dimensions: Any luggage exceeding the allowed dimensions may or may not be transported on the same flight as the passenger, depending on the available space on board the aircraft.
