Overview
Donovan House, located in up-and-coming Thomas Circle, aims to make Washington DC sleeker, sexier and a lot more fun. Named for “Wild Bill” Donovan, the legendary general whose covert operations gave birth to the CIA, this luxurious hotel combines simple, chic-but-stylish rectilinear lines with sexy, strong colors and clean, architectural materials to recreate a very intimate, stylish environment.
Donovan House injects an element of sensuality and sleek sophistication into the Washington hotel scene. Guest rooms are unique in design, complete with cocoon spiral showers and leather wrap-around beds. A destination restaurant and lounge, featuring cuisine by a well-known celebrity chef, will open on the premises, along with a private rooftop pool and a bar unlike any other venue in the capital city.
As Thomson Hotels' first location in DC, Donovan House offers an exciting alternative to the traditional hotel experience.

Stay At The Donovan House in Washington, D.C.

We arrived at 2:50 PM. Check in was at 3 PM. The front desk told us they upgraded us to a King Suite and our room had not been cleaned yet. We had not requested an upgrade. They said come back in 20 minutes. We returned an hour later and the room still wasn't ready. We were finally able to get into our room at 4:45 PM. It smelled badly from cigarette smoke. We asked to be moved to another room as we are non smokers and have never requested a smoking room. They obliged by giving us a non smoking room on another floor which they probably had available all the while but did not offer to us when we checked in. The front desk was apologetic, but we just wonder if our room was unavailable for so long because they were trying to get the cigarette smoke odor out of the first room before sending us up there. The hotel was very clean and modern and once we settled into the second room, we were pleased with those accommodations, except no hair dryer or shower cap.

We were very impressed with our upgraded room at the Donovan, complete with two windows with a marvelous view of St. Thomas Square. In addition to the cocoon shower that doubled as soft light for our room, we had a free standing, deep tub in the spacious bathroom. Just experimenting with the lighting possibilities in the room was a treat! A pool party was held on the 14th floor where there were also good views of the city. Hotel staff were adept at removing charges from our bill for the 2 free breakfasts that were included in our package. Even the Continental breakfasts in the attached restaurant (Zentan's) were exotic with fresh mozzarella, tomato, Jambon de Bayonne, great breads, croissants, cereals and the tastiest raspberries, blueberries and blackberries! -Judith Lescarret , from Westfield, United States - 8/17/2009

Overall, the stay at the Donovan went well, but a new issues did pop up that should not have. The promised 4:00 p.m. checkout was never communicated. At which point I had to show my email confirmation at the front desk, but they still deactivated the key cards before 4:00 p.m. The roof deck was closed due to a private event, which was never communicated. A guest at any hotel should be made aware of such a closure before hand, as the roof deck was one of the reasons I booked at the Donovan. When I called the front desk to inquire of the closure I was brushed off. D.C. has many hotels to choose from, I suggest you keep your options open. -Henry, from Bronx, United States - 8/12/2009

We loved the shower and the TV and the furniture was comfortable. The view was amazing but the room over all was small, with very few plug outlets and they were located in strange places that seem hidden. -Carol, from virginia beach, United States - 7/10/2009

I have just returned from my trip to DC. Spent 3 nights at the Donovan House hotel. It was everything I expected and more. Got upgraded to a studio with an amazing view. The room was very clean, comfortable. Everything was great. I would recommend this hotel although it's a bit on an expensive side, but you get what you pay for. -Dina Kozik , from Warminster, United States - 6/23/2009

I am happy to say my experience at the Donovan House was unique. The location is excellent for the Metro, but there is not much in the way of restaurants or bars in the near vicinity. The rooms have a very modern feel and it is kind of charming. However the very sleek shower never drained properly and never provided enough water pressure to rinse off very well. We returned to our room one afternoon about 3PM to change clothes and found the room had not yet been made up. At 4PM we called the desk and were told it was still early for housekeeping but they would do the room when we left. We returned to find the bed made and fresh towels but no robes or coffee or glasses had been replaced. ( When two guests register for a room why do they provide only one robe and one portion of coffee?) The most offensive part of the stay was the noise. It was clear at 8AM on the first morning that there was construction on site as we awoke to jack-hammers. They continued throughout the morning. -Ann Arfsten , from Belmont, United States - 10/23/2008
