For the most part, experts are saying that the risk of getting the flu while traveling this season is no greater than in your daily life. The flu is everywhere, travel destinations and your local haunts alike, so the risk is no worse whether you are at home or away.

However, there are definitely some tips on how to remain healthy through the holiday travel season. Whether you’re traveling down the street or across an ocean these health tips (from MSN) can go a long way to keep you and your family healthy this season.

1. Travel Well – Stress can really take a toll on your immune system, so start your trip right by being well-rested, well-planned, and extra healthy in the days before you leave with vitamin rich foods and supplements.

2. Take Extra Precautions – Don’t underestimate the value of constantly washing your hands. Bring sanitizer along everywhere you go, keep the airplane air ducts off of your face, and use your own pillow and blanket rather than those supplied by the airlines.

3. In Case of Sickness… – Know your airline’s policy on cancellations due to illness. If you do get the flu, try to cancel your flight or at least reschedule. Airlines vary widely on their policies towards sick passengers so read the fine print. With some a Doctor’s note proving flu is all you need, while with others there’s a hefty change fee.
