This summer when you’re vacationing in the States and in need of a little treat, keep your eyes peeled for gourmet goodies on the go. From New York to San Francisco, trucks peddling first-class desserts are popping up all over, giving visitors and locals alike something sweet to tweet about.

Twitter is proving the perfect solution for tracking this delicious development in top-notch desserts. More than 5,000 Twitterbugs follow San Francisco’s Crème Brûlée Cart, which sells a variety of vanilla, dark-chocolate-Chambord, and Baileys custards. Each sprinkled with sugar and bruléed on-site. Across the country in Miami, folks can find the Feverish Ice Cream Truck on Twitter when they’re overcome with the urge for fresh strawberry shortcakes or soy-based ice cream sandwiches. And back on the west coast in Portland, Oregon fans of Sol Pops can check their Twitter feeds to find the unique array of raspberry-nectarine and cucumber-lime-jalapeño popsicles sold from this sweet fleet of 1970s tricycles.

For the following treats, you’ll have to rely on a generous dollop of luck rather than Twitter. And oh how lucky you’ll no doubt feel when you taste the pistachio, red currant, or vanilla (made with barrel-aged pods) ice cream from the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck. Be sure to add one of the incredible toppings on offer: Michel Cluizel cocoa nibs, vodka-soaked cherries, or Slow Food-endorsed Sicilian nuts. And if you’re in Manhattan, be sure to also look out for The Treats Truck that sells more than 25 kinds of confections, including old-fashioned oatmeal cookies and Mexican chocolate brownies. Bon appétit, indeed!
