You can already book a hotel, check in for your flights, and rent a car online, and now luxury hotels are adding ordering room service to that list.
Hotels are beginning to experiment with putting their room service menus online, allowing guests to review their choices with pictures from their phone or laptop. The process could make ordering easier for both guests and staff alike as guests wouldn’t have to wait for staff to answer the phone and staff wouldn’t have to stop creating orders to take them. This system resembles Virgin America’s new in-flight menu system that lets you order from a TV screen and ensures an easier, more successful process for all involved. It also allows for future items to be ordered from an online menu as well such as wake-up calls and valet service. The information is sent directly to the hotel and billed to the credit card on file.
Omni and Starwood are the first two major luxury brands to experiment with this technology and plan on expanding it throughout their hotels soon. Getting the exact food your want faster? Sounds like the future is bright for online room service. Will you miss making that call or would you be happy to order online?
