Starting this summer, passengers will now be required to supply their birth date and gender for all domestic flights as part of TSA’s new Secure Flight program.
The new policy is supposed to help reduce the number of people misidentified as being on the “no-fly” and other “watch” lists. TSA will be responsible for monitoring the lists and making sure the passenger name, birth date and gender matches that of individuals on a watch list to ensure a more efficient process.
In addition, TSA is bringing back “gate checks”, the random screening of passengers waiting for flights after they’ve gone through security. You may remember these from soon after 9/11 when one way passengers and other randomly selected individuals were inspected at the gate prior to boarding.
The new regulations seem to add little to no extra time or hassle getting to your flight and may make a world of difference in preventing mishaps and confusion at the airport.
