Plane over Sipson Village

In a heated debate, British officials approved a plan to build a 3rd runway at London’s Heathrow Airport. The intense debate that ensued was because in doing so, the entire village of Sipson that exists on the outer perimeter of the airport, would be demolished.

The noise, environmental changes and the nearby Sipson village were the main arguments against the new runway. Arguments to add high speed trains to drive domestic flights elsewhere were proposed, but unsuccessful. Ultimately Heathrow airport, which is already operating at 99% capacity, desperately needed the 3rd runaway to alleviate flight congestion and delays as well as to continue to compete as a hub of air travel. It will also create hundreds of new jobs and secure London as a center of international economic activity for the future.

Noise and carbon emissions regulations will be created to make sure the new runway, which will likely not be constructed until beginning 2015, is as little obtrusive as possible, however that is not enough to save Sipson.
