Bernardus Lodge

I recently had the opportunity to get away for a three-night stay at the beautiful Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley. Feeling jealous? You should be, it is a wonderful spot.

Upon arrival, you are whisked into the lodge and handed a glass of wine grown at the nearby Bernardus Vineyards before being escorted to your room for check-in. The room has fresh flowers, a fireplace, large bathroom with a great soaking tub and a complimentary snack station stocked with a selection of Bernardus wines, other beverages and some tasty snacks.

The lodge has only 57 rooms but a sizable spa and some of Monterey’s finest dining. Marinus is arguably the finest dining on the Monterey Peninsula and Wickets provides more casual fare – all of the food we had was excellent. It is tempting to spend all of your time at the property, but it is a great launching point to explore Carmel (downtown shops and restaurants and the beach, Point Lobos State Park, the Carmel Mission, 17-Mile drive), Big Sur (Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Bixby Bridge), Pacific Grove and Monterey (Monterey Aquarium). The property is family friendly as well as being a terrific spot for a romantic getaway especially if you are coming from the San Francisco Bay Area. We will be back.
