Westin St Francis San Francisco

The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco is not only planning $150 million of hotel upgrades but is pressuring the city to upgrade its tourism policies as well.

As the Westin prepares to invest heavily in its San Francisco location, including bringing a brand new Michael Minna brasserie and bakery to the hotel, it is also asking the city to create policies that are more attractive to conventions, tourism and the hotel industry in general. Asking for increased national advertising budgets and policy changes on condo conversion rules, Westin St. Francis seeks to take San Francisco to the next level of tourism, on its own luxury terms.

But that’s ok by us, since the Westin St. Francis is a bit of a landmark in San Francisco and the old dog could teach the city a few new tricks. An international luxury chain, staying at a Westin almost guarantees class and comfort, which extends to the San Francisco property as well (even though the classic building is showing its age in comparison to the newer Tower). The separate Michael Minna Restaurant renovation is even more exciting and the new Brasserie is sure to tempt the eager palates of San Franciscans.

In a world of the-newer-the-better, San Francisco must keep up, yet still keep its charm, which is exactly what we would expect Westin to do with this extensive upgrade.

  1. This looks like a great hotel. San Fran just keeps getting hotter as a desirable destination. I will keep this in mind for my next vacation.
