In one month, MGM opened the MGM Grand Detroit and announced plans for a massive MGM Mirage resort in Atlantic City. Shining their bright lights beyond Las Vegas, the MGM Mirage empire adds much needed glitz and glamour to two upcoming cities, bringing upscale dining and entertainment closer to home for the many who crave it.
The MGM Grand Detroit brings everything Vegas has to offer to a welcoming downtown Detroit including world class celebrity restaurants, large well-dressed hotel rooms, multiple event spaces, clubs and lounges, and of course, an immense casino.
In fact, the new look of the MGM Grand steers away from the Wizard of Oz theatrics and standard hotel room adornments that currently fill the Las Vegas property and attempts to bring a bit of class, modernity and style to its new Detroit property. Catering to business and leisure travelers, the resort brings some much needed polish to Detroit opening up a plethora of job opportunities and entertainment to people who no longer have to cross the border to have some fun.
At the same time as MGM Grand opens the resort which will undoubtedly change the course of culture and entertainment in Detroit, its parent company, MGM Mirage, also announced plans to open a new Atlantic City resort, set to open in 2012, adding yet another massive destination to its list of properties. While to many of us Atlantic City has always appeared as a weaker stand in for Vegas, appealing to the big-haired, rhinestone and comb-over crowd, the new MGM Mirage resort attempts to counter that reputation and add some modern pizzazz to the same-old-same-old that currently dominates Atlantic City.
The Altantic City resort plans include three enormous towers connected by sky bridges, a large theatre, casino, and spa among its offerings, all of which are created with a mind to attract an affluent, classier crowd to the East Coast destination.
With the spread of legalized gambling around the country and the increase in travel that mixes both business and pleasure, MGM’s two new resorts in Detroit and Atlantic City supply the growing need for people to find fun in their own backyards. And we aren’t talking about a company picnic. MGM is creating entertainment destination whose quality and thoughtful creation add a needed sense of legitimacy for guests, while still keeping with the let-loose and high-gloss experience guests associate with the MGM brand. After all, a little sequins never hurt anyone.
