Intercontinental will open its 150th hotel in Dubai Festival City this coming November. But this is just the beginning for Intercontinental, which has plans to open a fairly long list of new properties over the next couple of years in a number of different countries including Vietnam, China, Austria, New Zealand and Russia, to name a few.
The around-the-world take-over by Intercontinental follows a growing trend in luxury hotels to focus their growth on regions that are exotic dreams for adventurous luxury travelers. Starwood Hotels & Resorts also has a long list of upcoming hotels in countries covering the globe including Portugal, China, Turkey, Dubai and Thailand.
While luxury isn’t always synonymous with authenticity when it comes to more remote destinations, it doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive either. Who says you have to “rough it” to get the real experience? A little bit of luxury and service can go a long way to prepare you for a day of battling crowded cobblestone streets and unrecognizable foods. Take for example the Four Seasons Tented Camp in Thailand, which offers guests unique hiking and elephant treks, but also access to world class spa facilities. Who wouldn’t want a little massage with their hardcore hike?
So go ahead and take the trip of your dreams, it’s likely there will be luxury waiting for you just around the corner, and around the world.
