Granted, it’s not until 2009 but the years are flying by fast lately. But when you combine the forces of downtown Miami, JW Marriott, basketball superstar-turned-business man Shaquille O’Neal, celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, architecture firm Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates, and $1 billion - well, you get our attention. Let’s hope that Shaq adds a little of his own Superman touches to the details.
“The 396-room Miami Met Marquis Hotel will be part of the $1 billion Metropolitan Miami mixed-use project that’s slated to open in downtown Miami in 2009, the project’s developers announced. The 42-story hotel will be part of the JW Marriott Collection Hotels brand.
“Miami Met Marquis is a bold new brand for our portfolio that will be synonymous with modern urban luxury,” said Donald Semmler, executive vice president of Marriott International Corp.
Slated for the project’s Met 2 tower, the hotel is being designed by the architectural firm Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates.
The hotel will include celebrity chef Daniel Boulud’s DB Bistro Moderne; a spa and fitness center; 20,000 square feet of retail space; and 25,000 square feet of column-free ballroom and meetings space.
The entire Metropolitan Miami development, a joint venture between the MDM Development Group and the O’Neal Group, a group formed by basketball superstar Shaquille O’Neal, consists of three towers housing the hotel, more that 1,100 luxury condominiums, shops and restaurants, a movie theater, and the city’s first Whole Foods Market.”
