Overview
Located atop Nob Hill, the Fairmont San Francisco is situated near cable car lines that provide guests with quick access to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and the Financial District. The hotel features a grand lobby, roof garden, and a grand public space with two restaurants and two lounges.
All of the hotel's 591 guestrooms and suites have been remodeled during a recent $85 million restoration project. When making a reservation, be sure to ask for one of the rooms with a view of San Francisco and the Bay.
Guests can choose from several dining venues, including the Tonga Restaurant and the Hurricane Bar which serve Pacific Rim Asian Cuisine in a tropical rainforest setting. The signature restaurant, Laurel Court, serves fine cuisine with an emphasis on fresh regional ingredients.
The Terrace Level of San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel is home to Club One at Nob Hill which offers work-out equipment and fitness classes. There is an admission fee for non-Fairmont President's Club guests. The Club One at Nob Hill Spa offers a range of spa services such as sports massage, Swedish massage, deep tissue/connective tissue massage and acupressure.

We Love San Francisco and the Cable Cars

This is an older hotel that has been refurbished since our last stay many years ago. As with most hotels the lighting could be improved but more importantly, the bathroom needs additional storage space. There is no cabinet or counter space. We were on the 4th floor of the original building with no view except the other side of the hotel, we were not offered an upgrade and we did not ask for it. The free drinks under the package were added to our room charge and we needed them to remove it after they told us at check in that we were entitled to it. However, we used the spa services in the beauty salon because the spa was booked up and we were pleasantly surprised w/ the massage and facial offered there. The hotel provides a printer for printing out your boarding pass which is convenient feature. We did not dine there. -Alan, from Melville, United States - 10/29/2009

Extremely helpful staff. Beautiful architecture and location. Room view of roof and mechanicals less than desirable. -John Ball , from Fort Mill, United States - 10/21/2009

Great Classic Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Fairmont is a classic hotel experience of the classic age. They would accommodate any wish. They would also help out with any problem or direction. My only problem is the location if you want to be in the busy section of town...don't get me wrong, a short cable car ride and you are there but don't try walking unless you can handle it. I highly reccommend this hotel. -Jonathan Zins , from North Brunswick, United States - 7/20/2009
Old San Francisco
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This hotel is beautiful and an historical part of San Francisco. It has housed world leaders and I don't think they would have been treated any better than we were. The views down Mason St and California are stunning but be prepared for a hike back up or a fun trolley ride to the top of the hill. We would stay here again without a doubt. The location is also superb as you go downhill one way to the Wharf or down another hill to the shopping district. -Elaine, from Barrie, Canada - 6/15/2009
Everything We Expected and More

I recently stayed at The Fairmont with my mother and my sister. When we arrived to check-in the host noticed that my mother's room was booked in the tower and mine in the main building. She graciously upgraded me to the towers and placed me right next door to my mother. What a grand beautiful hotel! A gem for sure- in a great location. Our rooms were spacious and the views of downtown and the bay were amazing. We never closed our drapes! We Loved San Fransisco and loved The Fairmont. We can't wait to return. -Ken Ciancio, from Denver, United States - 5/26/2009
Great Stay

The Fairmont lives up to its name. Its lobby is grand and elegant, and once you read about its history documented in the hallways through photographs and excerpts, it's proof that this hotel is truly special and has stood the test of time. The icing on the cake is the friendly staff. Would come back in a heartbeat! -Shelley, from Yuba City, United States - 2/5/2009

We felt we were having a 2nd honeymoon--of course, we had one of the best rooms in the hotel. -James, from Boyton Beach, FL, United States - 6/16/2008
Fairmont in February
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Fairmont continues to be better than the other traditional high-end SF hotels, like the Mark Hopkins or Sir Francis Drake, but a notch below the newer luxury hotels (Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons). The suite I had in the main building was spacious (800 square feet, all usable) and the bedroom and bed were excellent, but the living area furnishings reflect the hotel's orientation towards business guests. Views are good to excellent from most rooms. The bathroom does not have the full range of features (such as separate shower, sunken tub) that would be part of a suite at the newer top-end hotels. On the other hand, the price was better as well. A good place to stay, especially the suites, if money is not totally irrelevant to you. -Michael Kelly , from San Carlos, United States - 2/16/2008
Violating Trust in the Restaurant
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Pretty good hotel, so far. However my experience in the main restaurant (Laurel Court) prompted this review.
They have a pretty good, but over priced wine list (glasses ran $9 -$12). The waitress recommended the Jordan as the featured selection. I've had Jordan before, it's pretty good. But imagine my chagrin when I find out that the glass of Chardonay was $17 and the Cabernet was $22. I felt I had been taken advantage of. By having the "featured" wine be twice what the highest price wine of the list was, and not even mentioning it felt like a scam to me.
Like I say, otherwise the place seems pretty nice. -Dave McComb, from Fort Collins, United States - 1/29/2008
Luxurious Elegance...Perfect!!

I can't say enough about Perfect Escapes and the Fairmont San Francisco! We just celebrated my husband's birthday there, and it was incredible. The lobby is nothing short of spectacular!! (went into the Mark Hopkins lobby next door and it did not compare...if you want Grand, the Fairmont is the way to go!). We arrived an hour before check-in hoping to at least be able to drop off our bags, but they allowed us to check into our room early, which was great. The staff was excellent, and the views from our tower room were to die for! If you stay here, you MUST take advantage of the breakfast buffet in the Lower Court restaurant. Not only is the atmosphere elegant and serene, but the food is amazing...so much variety! Finally, the rate we got through Perfect Escapes was incredible - the $259 breakfast package included a king deluxe room in the tower and an $80 breakfast credit per day!! We wouldn't have been able to afford this weekend without Perfect Escapes. Thank you!! -Karen, from Sierra Madre, United States - 11/30/2007
Pretty Good

It was okay. The view was to die for, the staff was excellent and accommodating. I expected the hotel to be a bit more grand. Not a lot of places to enjoy a great meal inside the hotel. Parking too expensive at$48 a night. -Vanette, from Mission Viejo, United States - 11/1/2007
Grand Ol' Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We are native San Franciscans and found the hotel not to be as grand as it was years ago. We were disappointed that the Crown Room was closed. Our room was nice but the windows were filthy and we were right next to the elevator. The windows were the biggest disappointment because it was hard to enjoy the wonderful view that the room did have. We had a car and could not leave it with the bellman in the front of the hotel but had to go around the block to the garage. We were told that the gym was open at 7am and that we could use it for a fee and I paid it and then when I got down there on the second day it was closed. Having said all that I am sure we would return because of our love for San Francisco and because it is the Fairmont and just has so much history and fond memories. We would for sure return with the wonderful package that was offered by Perfect Escapes. -COLIN MORETON, from WAILEA, United States - 10/8/2007
