Fun Getaway

I recently stayed at this hotel with some friends for a girls weekend. It was great, service and the lounge by the pool was excellent to hang out and enjoy some drinks. Very nice hotel. I would stay here again. -Lindsay Simons , from Santa Ana, United States - 3/25/2010
Good Gaslamp Location
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Nice hotel where walking throughout the Gaslamp area
is easy. Good service, nice room with "retro" motif, area on roof with pool had cabanas and seating etc., very nice. Lobby "living room" was well done. Car parking at $35 a night was too high as was the business center fee at $5.95 for 15 minutes of internet use. -Patrick Walsh , from IRVINE, United States - 3/1/2010
Hotel Solamar

I was very impressed with the hotel and its staff. My only critique is that the cost seems great at $135.00/night but add in the $35.00/night fee for your vehicle and really, the cost of the room is $170.00/night. Overall, the hotel itself was homey and accommodating. The complimentary wine hour from 5:00-6:00 is a great way to get to know other faces you might see in the hall. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. Hotel Solamar is in a prime location in the Gaslamp District; perfect walking distance to a variety of establishments. I was very satisfied with my stay. -Pamela Barnhart , from Lomita, United States - 2/22/2010
Comfort

Quiet, nice patio/room. The hotel should offer a non-alcoholic option for afternoon social hour. Wine was our only option. The J Six restaurant is excellent. -Donn Wagner , from Montrose, United States - 1/30/2010

Great Stay

We truly enjoyed the spa suite. The king bed was very comfortable along with the selection of pillows. Very clean hotel, not only the rooms but the lobby and halls as well. Will definitely come back. The staff was very friendly. -Cheryl Johannsen , from West Bend, United States - 12/15/2009
Nice and Relaxing Vacation
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My boyfriend and I stayed in a King Spa Deluxe room. Very clean and lots of room to move around. My only complaint is the bed: not very comfortable and lumpy. The service was wonderful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. -Kimberly, from Culver City, United States - 5/6/2009
Restful and Well Located
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We stayed at Hotel Solamar for a week of vacation. The interior of the hotel is very calming and our room was quiet. It did not seem to have many small children as guests. The location is great. You can easily walk to quite a few excellent restaurants and to the baseball stadium. The room was quite comfortable and clean. The front desk was able to help us find our way around the Gaslamp district. -Lisa, from Los Angeles, United States - 4/14/2009

My reservation was screwed up. Somehow the room I booked wasn't available. But they accommodated me with an upgrade. -Chansi Aquino , from san diego, United States - 3/25/2009
Would Not Stay Here Again
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This was my third time here but first on the weekend. Hotel is quite nice and staff is friendly. Complaint #1: Had to move rooms after being kept up until 1am due to music at pool bar. Complaint #2: Asked for wake-up call for important event and never got it. Front desk gave some lame excuse. Good thing I set my alarm as well. Also don't like the number of dogs on the property-have to listen to them through the room walls. -Milton Ellisor , from Spring, United States - 3/14/2009
About What I Expected

Comfortable modern decor. Very comfortable beds. One of the best showers I've had in a long time. Generally pleasant, accommodating, service. Great central location. Only 2 minor disappointments: early check-in was not available; robes were not in room but had to be requested. -Bruce Hirsch , from Culver City, United States - 2/21/2009

Jacuzzi With a View
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Jacuzzi tub in our corner suite had a view across the Gaslamp to Coronado. We loved the location--close to shops and nightlife. The restaurant (J Six) was excellent, great food and service (save room for the Creme Brulee). The Poolside nightclub (J6) wasn't for us but we are definitely going back. -Angus Henderson , from San Diego, United States - 12/11/2008
Horrible Service
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
From the moment we arrived at the hotel we encountered problems. We pulled up to the valet, emptied out our luggage and five minutes later an attendant came to assist us. I chose to use the soaking jacuzzi tub, but before using the bath I called the front desk and asked if housekeeping could come make the sofa bed for our children and bring up two child size robes(which were advertised on their website) along with their welcome gift. The front desk had no idea what I was talking about. I filled the tub, got in only to find the jets weren't working. I found that housekeeping had made the bed, but brought no pillows. They also had only brought one robe and one welcome gift. After three more phone calls to the front desk and engineering, the spa was fixed intermittently, and no additional robes or gifts surfaced. We had to give pillows from our bed for our children to sleep on. When we checked out, the front desk never asked how our stay was. Very disappointing stay. -Elizabeth Leahy , from San Diego, United States - 12/3/2008
Room Furniture
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The room was very large with all the furniture grouped at one end. Large desk with mini bar and snacks, but there was no place to put clothing. Small closet with wall safe and no shelves. No dresser or any drawer space at all. For items that could not be hung up, we had to leave clothing in suitcases. Other than that - the hotel was great! -Judy Irvin , from Hopkinton, United States - 11/19/2008
