Overview
Overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park, 6 Columbus is the newest addition to Thompson Hotels. Interior designer Steven Sclaroff has created 88 guest rooms and suites with a 60s-inspired vibe, making 6 Columbus one of the most anticipated urban retreats in Manhattan. Visually evocative of the modernist design, 6 Columbus is shot through with 21st century sensibilities. Teak and chrome are the predominant materials used in the furnishings with an overall sense of sleekness prevailing.
An intimate upscale and hip boutique hotel, 6 Columbus brings the downtown SoHo feel of its sister property, 60 Thompson, to the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Rooms feature flat-panel plasma TVs, iPod alarm clocks, wireless and broadband Internet connections, spa amenities by Fresh, minibar amenities by Dean & Deluca, and custom made 400-thread-count linens by SFERRA. All rooms feature artwork from one of the world's most respected fashion photographers, Guy Bourdin.

Great Place to Stay in NYC

Great room, small, but it is NYC. Many amenities for the price. Staff was very helpful during our stay. Loved the heated bathroom floors. Quiet and good bed. Contemporary update. Location was unbeatable. Macy's parade was across the street, as was a great shopping mall. If you chose you could walk to Central Park, Theater district or catch the subway. Sushi Restaurant with good food on the 1st floor and an Irish Bar almost next door. Just Okay

Finding the hotel was difficult since 6 Columbus Circle isn't the real address but the front desk didn't seem too concerned about that. The room was smallish, but nice, but had the worst view ever. Luckily there were a few nice people helping out, Peter the bellman/door man general good guy made me feel welcome and Kostas one of the managers switched my room after I complained. Perfect Escapes promises a free upgrade if available, but property won't have on available unless you insist. In the end it was Okay, but somehow I always felt like I wasn't paying enough ($300 a night) to complain!! They must do something about some of the views!! -Dolly, from Toronto, Canada - 10/23/2009

Unhappy Stay

I was very unhappy with this hotel Sept. 12 -13. The elevators we're not working, the hallway had a very bad odor, my safe was not accessible & the front desk staff informed me wrong about how close/far the United Nations Plaza was to the hotel. I spoke to the assistant mgr at the hotel, but he didn't seem to want to offer a discount of some sort, instead he told me to come back for a complimentary stay!? Love the location, staff and hotel. Right on Columbus Circle and next to Time Warner Center as well as Central Park.

Do Not Select the Small Room

I arrive on a winter night to stay for 5 nights. The location was excellent and the price seemed a good deal at $169 + taxes. The staff was very helpful and nice. However, the assigned room definitely did not meet my expectations nor the standard of Perfect Escapes. It was too small, yeah is NYC but still too small, the room was a queen, but certainly the bed was not queen, was a good double but not a queen. I complained, they offered an upgrade to other queen room for $20 which immediately I took. The room was a little bit bigger, the bathroom was great but was too dark as the window was in front of a wall with no direct sunlight. I called the Perfect Escapes agent to complain, and she talked to the manager and he called me and offered me a fantastic room with no additional cost!!! So I stayed in a wonderful room called queen deluxe, with a great bathroom, a nice desk and a nice window!! One of the nights he sent me a bottle of sparkling water, Mexican honey and crackers. New and Clean

This is our second stay at 6 Columbus, mainly because they have great deals if you look often enough ($149/night for pod-room but we got upgraded to queen size bed for free) and on the weekends. We booked a day before. The hotel is newly renovated, and part of the chic Thompson chain in NYC. The staff are great, especially the bellman who gets you prepped for check-in immediately. This place is nice, steps from Central Park, but we'd like a change of scenery next time, maybe more lower downtown or mid-town. Columbus Circle

I was in the Pod room on the second floor that was actually very comfortably sized and appointed. However, it was right over the fan unit, the bathroom heat did not work and there was a very loud neighbor on the floor.
I asked to move my room and after a fair amount of scorn from the front desk, I moved to the fifth floor. Room was similar except it had a bigger bed and no chair to sit in.
I would stay again--and certainly at the $99 rate. The location is great and common areas were well done.
The hotel is difficult to find. The address says 6 Columbus Circle. It is really on 58th. One should know the street address before venturing out looking for it. Ideally located alongside Columbus Circle, the hotel offers a warm and hip welcome to New York. Decent sized bedrooms, with high quality linen and towels and trendy bathroom amenities. The smartly dressed front of house team were very friendly and highly professional. The concierges too managed to achieve the balance of being friendly without being familiar. Great New Hotel and Quality

My wife and I stayed at 6 Columbus for a Sat. night in March 2008. The hotel looks like it's brand new. It's a smaller building on 58th and 8th Ave, but right off of the famous Columbus circle and on the corner of Central Park so the location is quite central to Midtown and Upper West Side. The stylings are quite modern and the staff were very attentive. We were upgraded from a pod room to a queen size bed for free which was great. That said, the hotel is a very small building, and the rooms are a little smaller than average, but two people don't really need more space than that. What matters is that the hotel is clean and brand spanking new. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples with no children, but probably ONLY at the right price. I've heard the hotel rates average around $300 and up, but I got a great deal on perfectescapes.com for $145 for a pod room. This was our first visit to 6 Columbus and we will definitely return. Its location is great for Lincoln Center (4 blocks) and right across the street from TimeWarner - nice shops and excellent restaurants. Staff was very friendly yet exceedingly efficient. November Business Trip

This was an excellent hotel although the rooms were small, but that is to be expected in Manhattan. The staff was great and offered suggestions for places to run as there are no workout facilities on site. Directions:
From Boston/Connecticut/Rhode Island Take I-95 south New York City. Follow directions to the George Washington Bridge. Take the last exit before the bridge to the Henry Hudson Parkway South. Take this into Manhattan exit at 56th Street bearing to your left. Go straight one block. At the first traffic light make a right onto 11th Avenue and go north toward 57th Street. Proceed on 11th Avenue and continue for one block. Turn right onto 58th Street - proceed three blocks to the hotel entrance which will be located on your right.
From New Jersey/Pennsylvania/Newark Airport Take the New Jersey Turnpike to the Lincoln Tunnel to Manhattan. When exiting the tunnel follow the signs leading North-Uptown. Take 10th Avenue North to 58th Street. Make a right onto 58th Street and head east two blocks to the hotel entrance which will be located on your right.
Transportation:
From JFK Airport Take the Belt Parkway west to the Gowanas/BQE to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Bear to your right exiting the tunnel and turn right onto West Street. Go north until West 56th Street at this exit turn right. Proceed to 10th Avenue and make a right onto 10th Avenue. Go two blocks north to 58th Street and make a right onto 58th Street. Proceed 2 blocks to the hotel entrance which will be located on your right.
From LaGuardia Airport Take the Grand Central Parkway west to the Triborough Bridge to Manhattan. Take the Harlem River Drive exit to the FDR at 60th Street head west to 5th Avenue and make a left. Travel one block to Central Park South and make a right. Continue to 7th Avenue and make a left. Go south 2 blocks and make a right onto 57th Street. Go 3 blocks west to 10th Avenue and make a right. Go one block to 58th Street and make a right onto 58th Street. Go 2 blocks to the hotel entrance which will be located on your right.
