Mixed Bag

The hotel is a mixture of grandeur and threadbare upholstery, of friendly, efficient front desk staff and irregular service. Two of the four evenings our bed was turned down (once at 10 pm) and the other two it was not. We had to wait 40 minutes for a bucket of ice on one evening. Our room key was deactivated on the second day of our stay. There was a strong odor of sewer gas in the bathroom which wasn't alleviated by opening the window. The hotel is nicely located on a canal but the neighborhood is rather gritty and the food is over-hyped and overpriced. Good fitness facilities and public areas.

FROM AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL AIRPORT:
Southwest 17 Kilomters DIRECTIONS TO HOTEL From AMS - When reaching the A10 RING Amsterdam follow the direction ZUID and 100 or AFRIT - exit s112 (duivendrecht). Take afrit s 112, turn left at the traffic lights and follow the direction Centrum. After 1 km, at the roundabout, turn right at the sign Centrum s 112 into the Wibautstraat. Later named eesperstraat. Follow this broad street for about 3 km till you reach a second roundabout . Follow the roundabout and turn right after the white twin-tower church. Drive along the Waterlooplein/City Hall/ Opera building. Turn right after the bridge and follow the river Amstel. After 200 metres turn right on the next bridge and cross the Amstel again. After 50 metres turn left over a small drawbridge and turn left again. You are now in the Nieuwe Doelenstraat. After 100 metres stop in front of the Hotel de L Europe. Our doorman will welcome you and assist you with parking your car.
