Hotel De Luxe -- a Gem

Fabulous hotel with the best, friendliest service by all who work there. Would highly recommend it and we have stayed at many 5 star hotels. Loved all of the old movie photos everywhere --- fun to test your memory.

A+ bar in hotel. Great bed. Quiet, comfortable, and within walking distance of everything. Couldn't ask for more. Would definitely stay again.

Pleasant!

Staff was delightful. Room was comfortable. High ceilings! Fun space. Bathroom featured original tile. Doors were heavy, solid wood. Mattress was amazing. Only complaint, ugly ungainly large dressers! Too bad they could not have scavenged period furniture or commissioned something attractive. Only complaint! Acoustically well insulated. In-hotel restaurant was good.

Perfect Stay at the Hotel Deluxe

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Hotel DeLuxe. We had originally planned to stay only one night. After our experience the first night, we called first thing in the morning to extend our stay. First of all, the staff is excellent. We had a uniformly positive experience from the moment we drove up, through reception, for drinks at the way retro cool Driftwood bar and at breakfast the next morning at Gracie's. After casually asking about theatre and cinema in the area at the front desk in the morning, we had a packet with recommendations waiting for us when we returned in the afternoon. Everything about the hotel has a hip intimacy that is a perfect blend of style, quality and fun; it completely captures what one imagines of the glamor, mixed with playfulness, of the Golden Age of Hollywood. It provided a stay with real personality and class that I have not experienced at more expensive hotels. We will definitely go back.

Perfect Romantic Getaway

We took a 3-day birthday getaway to sample some of Portland's best craft brews, restaurants and fun. Just across the bridge from the Pearl district, the hotel was a perfect distance from the center of the city's hub. We walked, cabbed, and took transit - no car. We had a King sized bed in the room, with windows looking to the interior of the building. It was quiet - away from the MAX that runs along the side of the hotel. The room was small compared to modern hotels, but completely consistent with the age of the building. They had nice, high ceilings, so it didn't seem so bad - we're both tall. Nice room amenities - Telegraph Hill robes, Aveda products, complimentary in-room Torrefazione coffee - made the stay very comfortable. The staff at the hotel were courteous and friendly. They have a custom pillow menu - just press the "make it so" button and get your preferred pillows - soft, med, firm. We made good use of the bell services - prompt and friendly. I'd go back.

Hotel De Luxe Portland Stay

Our stay in Portland was amazing, though our accommodations at Hotel Deluxe were more Hotel Mediocre. Pluses - nice staff, clean room. Minuses - T-I-N-Y room, crappy room location (weird mini-hall with a window opening to a fire escape alley) and a very terrible hotel restaurant (Portland has amazing food - don't eat at the hotel under any circumstance)!
So-so's - location (good accessibility, but just a bit off the best area's for us and sandwiched between light rail - so got some morning rail squealing), bed (high quality, but nothing "amazing).
The room was really, really small. Setting up the suitcase on the stand took up more of the available floor space making it literally difficult to move around and even tight to open the door. We were in the King Deluxe room.

The room was a lot smaller than expected. The fixtures and decor of the room itself was nice but for the price, the space was too small for 2 people. It was quite claustrophobic. The location was a bit off from the downtown area, which most likely explains the lower room rate.

The hotel was very nice and the staff were very polite. The parking situation did not go over well with us. You have to pay twenty something dollars to valet park your car every day. Each time you go out of the hotel and come back, you have to tip the men which adds up to even more of an expense. There was a garage next door that you could use instead, but there were no in and out privileges, and it was $7.50 each time you entered the garage. Unfortunately, these were the only parking options. The hotel also charges $10 a day for internet use. My parents stayed a few miles a way at a less expensive hotel and had free internet. We just ended up taking the computer out with us to restaurants that offered WiFi. If less expensive hotels and restaurants allow free use of the internet, why doesn't Hotel DeLuxe? Those were the only concerns we had. Other than that, we really liked the Hotel DeLuxe. It was clean and quiet. It is centrally located to many of the places we visited.

Classy

Our room was beautiful - calm and elegant. It is worth paying for the larger King room. The bathroom was pretty, but true to the era - i.e., small! Staff are pleasant and efficient and breakfast is worth a visit on its own.

A really great boutique hotel. Very nice interior design, with a great 'Classic Hollywood' theme. The only complaint would be the thin walls.

Lobby beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location great. Bed was very comfortable. Room was small but comfortable. We were able to check in early (1:30 pm) and checkout was noon.
