I Love This Hotel!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We have stayed at The Roger Williams several times and have not been disappointed yet. Our last stay (booked through Perfect Escapes) included free parking, breakfast, Champagne and a room upgrade to a penthouse room. When our room was not ready, we were directed to the lounge for 2 free drinks. When our room was ready (after about 20 minutes), the manager found us to let us know our bags were already in the room. Service here is outstanding and the buffet breakfast is superb. We look forward to our next stay at this lovely hotel. It is also in a great location...walking distance from Penn Station and not far from Grand Central. -Patricia, from ORELAND, United States - 5/5/2010
Good Value
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
In terms of NYC pricing, this was a good value for the night that I stayed there. Very nice, clean, well organized hotel. There was no late check out, though, I asked and was rejected, so don't assume that this is a given, like I did. Generally have no problems with this place. -Melissa B, from Southampton, United States - 4/14/2010

A Surprise at the End of Our Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This small hotel is located in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan. The staff was very friendly. The decor is unique and the rooms were clean. I would say that this is a 3 1/2 star establishment. Our big surprise came when we got our bill and found an $18.00 daily service charge. I know this is New York, but I thought this charge was over the top. -Paul M, from Manchester, United States - 3/25/2010
Perfect Escapes & RW
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The hotel was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. All of the amenities promised by Perfect Escapes (PE) were fulfilled. The hotel is a very nice boutique hotel in a city where real estate and space are at a premium therefore you expect a smaller room, but this room was really quite comfortable (not sure if that was due to the PE upgrade). The complimentary champagne was very good (not the anticipated cheap stuff). The bed was super comfortable, great spa like robes, & lovely linens. The shower was not your typical. Often seen in Europe there are 2 shower heads (1 fixed overhead, one handheld) but there is no tub so the entire bathroom is tiled and there are 2 drains. Having lived in Europe and familiar with this I was fine with it, but since the floor can get quite slippery it may not be the best for the senior folks.
Recommendations for the hotel would be: One, include a squeegee or mop in the room to help soak up some of the water, and two, better window treatments to preven -Gillian, from Miami, United States - 3/25/2010
R.W. Not Luxury Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
For 15 years and more we have gone regularly to the Roger Williams. But nothing was done in more in this hotel: the small rooms have a poor furnishing adapted to a hotel without stars, only one chair, not an armchair, not a piece of furniture with drawers, only a wardrobe with 4 davits, not a rack to pose the shoes. Inside wardrobe a safe fixed on a very high rack inaccessible to the people of intermediate size. In the bathrooms have no places to put own products of toiletries, no slippers, the tiny wash basin does not have edges. In the first room which was proposed to us it was impossible to sit on the WC without wedging our right leg against the bath-tub. This first room, was really small for 2 and absolutely impossible to open 2 bags. The toiletries are sold expensive, excluded small liquid soap bottles (with rosemary?) of very average quality. The breakfast in a mezzanine which was before a corner for a free coffee. I will not go any more to this hotel before renovation works. -Rita P, from Sion, Switzerland - 3/23/2010

Surprised by the Service Charges
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Overall, I thought that this hotel was OK for the average price that I paid, however, I was very surprised upon checkout to find an additional $18.00 a night service charge, which is supposed to include the wireless, local calls and fitness room. This was hidden in the reservation booking and I was very displeased after finding that additional charge. I would have definitely chosen a different hotel for the same money if I had known about this increase. -Shannon M, from EAST AMHERST, United States - 3/19/2010

Made the Trip More Enjoyable
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The hotel made our trip close to perfect. The location was great. Near places to get water, food etc. It was quiet at night. Not a bad walk to Penn Station. The hotel was very clean and fit our needs perfectly. We had a package that included Champagne which sealed the deal. The staff were great down to the door men. We have been to other places where we were not received so warmly. Hope to get back soon. -Joanne B, from Trenton, United States - 3/12/2010
Enjoyed Stay but Disappointed About Parking Fee
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I liked the package deal but was disappointed in having to pay for parking which was supposed to be free. If the free parking was 'valet parking' it should have been stated. OK, now for the good: Champagne and a lovely brunch. Some people didn't like the frosted bathroom door but I did. Nice comfy bathrobe. Late checkout was great. -Pat R, from bolton, United States - 1/20/2010

A great location! Clean hotel with friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. If traveling by car, the breakfast/parking package is a great value. The room was perfect except for the bathroom which was a bit small...one at a time :-)! The location was perfect for theater, shopping, and eating, on top of being quiet for a good night's sleep. I strongly recommend the hotel, and we will be back in the Spring! -Sylvie T, from Montreal, Canada - 1/4/2010

Great Place to Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The heating broke down, the room was so cold we had to get a heater brought to the room. The room was clean and comfortable - and a decent size by New York standards. The bathroom was really small, but clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was good - great restaurants in the area - eating with locals rather than tourists. The Crooked Knife around the corner on E30tth is worth a try. Short walk to subway and major stores. No real complaints - we had a great time in NY and were happy to be at this hotel even though it was pricey. -Dianna W, from Sydney, Australia - 12/9/2009

Location is perfect for getting around (2 blocks from 6 train, east line) without being in congested areas. Room larger than most I have stayed in the City. Breakfast was excellent, reminded us of boutique European feel. Basically used it as a launching pad for enjoying the city and quick place to grab a drink / relax before venturing out. Always able to grab a cab and hotel staff attentive and pleasant. -Evan L, from Kennett Square, United States - 10/22/2009
Not Just a Great Value, but a Great Hotel in NYC
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Hotel Roger Williams is a phenomenal value in NYC. My girlfriend and I went for Columbus Day weekend, and were incredibly pleased. The Perfect Escapes rate was great for any hotel, let alone a gorgeous gem in the middle of Manhattan. Murray Hill is a nice, quiet section of town, great eating & drinking, and very close & accessible to Midtown, Union Square, Soho, etc. We booked a terrace suite, which is on the top floor. We overlooked Madison, had a great view of the Empire State building, and thoroughly enjoyed our large outdoor balcony. Reading, pre-dinner drink, just great. A terrace in Manhattan, who would have thought? The staff was great, the price was very right, the location is great, I will surely stay here again. The room was large by NY standards, was very clean, etc. The bathroom was on the small side, but who really cares? Highly recommended. -Edward, from Chicago, United States - 10/16/2009

 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Staff was very gracious and helpful. Our room was upgraded as promised and the free champagne was waiting for us. Dinner was wonderful but a bit pricey. The breakfast buffet was delicious as well and you spend slightly more than you would at a neighborhood breakfast place. Service at both meals was great.
I think charging for toothpaste/toothbrush is a little much but we would stay here again. Very clean rooms and good size for NYC. The $18 daily service fee was waived as promised (although I'm not quite sure what this is for?). I will continue to book through Perfect Escapes for the extras. -Patricia M, from ORELAND, United States - 10/1/2009

Great Hotel, Quiet Neighborhood
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Great hotel if you are looking for something nice in a more quiet neighborhood. Very clean. Service was very good - all front desk and doormen always smiling and happy. Bed was very comfortable. My room had a terrace with a wonderful view of the Empire State Building. Even though the hotel is in a quiet neighborhood, the Empire St Building is only 3 blocks away. Great local coffee shop 2 doors down (as well as a tea shop). Plenty of restaurants within 5 blocks. I thought the location might be a little difficult to catch a cab from, but I never waited more than 2 minutes. -Blaine, from Nashville, United States - 9/28/2009

My husband and I stayed for just 1 night wile in NYC. Can't say enough about the wonderful staff, very helpful and friendly. The room however was a bit odd in terms odd style and design. Small in size which is typical of some NYC hotel rooms. Reminded me of a cross between a room in Japan and a room at a cottage! -Lynn C, from Mississauga, Canada - 9/28/2009

Enjoyed out stay. 4-star customer service. But rooms were definitely more like 3-star. Our upgraded room was quite small, including a very small bathroom. Everything about the hotel was fantastic. Quiet, beautiful room, incredibly friendly staff, fantastic breakfast. The location was an easy walk from Penn Station, and less than two blocks from the 6 train. Booking through Perfect Escapes we were supposed to get champagne and the $18 service charge waived, and I had to ask for both, but then they sent us a $75 bottle of champagne from room service, and waived the fee at check out. So for the rate we got, which included parking and breakfast, we could not have been more thrilled. I look forward to staying at the Roger Williams when I go back to NYC. It's a beautiful, cheerful hotel. -Rebekah, from Los Angeles, United States - 8/4/2009
Not a Luxury Hotel but With the Nicest Personnel a

We arrived to The Roger Williams for a pre-cruise two night stay and we were immediately taken care of. The friendliest door men and receptionist that wanted to know every thing about the purpose of our trip and how we were and gave us all the information we needed for our immediate plans.
Lobby is small but very nicely furnished and smells like lit candles.
Elevators and hallways nicely decorated in bright colors, rooms were of good size in a modern but warm style, with nice touches like Plasma TV, nice window screens and nice work desk and chairs, all so colorful and comfortable. Bathroom was smallish but very modern all in crystal doors, steel sink, nice bath robes, and a lot of items for sale all over the room, from books to umbrella, robes, wine, water and snacks. Room was totally sound proof, a/c is good also
but the very best is the mezzanine lounge that serves an unique breakfast and excellent coffee, also the very tasty food options. -Antonio C, from Coatzacoalcos, Mexico - 6/23/2009

The accommodations were very nice. There was some initial confusion about the conditions of the Perfect Escapes reservation, but the manager (Paolo) was very understanding and we received a room upgrade to the penthouse, late checkout, and bottle of wine. I was very pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Roger Williams charming and spacious rooms. This hotel turned out to be very nice. It is located a short distance from Times Square however a short taxi ride ($6.00) is worth the stay. The hotel is very clean and the staff was very helpful. Cozy and Chic in One Package

So many boutique hotels are sleek and modern at the expense of comfort; this is NOT a problem at Roger Williams. The rooms are a good size for Manhattan, and the colorful quilt on the bed softens the edges of the otherwise edgy modern design. It's not brimming with over-the-top luxury, and not especially well-suited to business travelers (tiny safe won't hold laptops, and desks lack convenient power outlets) but it's quiet, well-located, and cute. Every employee I saw greeted me warmly, and all seemed genuinely interested in whether I was having a good stay. Oh, and I got a full bottle of very nice Champagne as a treat for booking with Perfect Escapes! -Anita, from San Francisco, CA, United States - 2/6/2009
