Overview
An entirely new genre of hotel – one that will change the game again and raise the bar. The Gramercy Park Hotel's Haute Bohemian heritage has been honored and renewed in the transformation by Ian Schrager. It is still the Gramercy Park Hotel but better! It represents a sensuous vision of artful diversity. Bohemia reinvented for the 21st century with an original combination of styles, with great pieces of furniture and art and the extraordinary use of color. It is a balancing act which only Ian Schrager could pull off, as well as a fresh approach which represents a new departure for him. It brings together a number of creative forces, not chosen for their compatibility, but for their shared commitment to the modern lifestyle.
The hotel has been created by Ian Schrager's long time partners, Michael Overington and Anda Andrei, with a little help from some of Ian's friends, including the painter Julian Schnabel.

I was kept up until nearly 5am by the music coming up from the bar/club in the lobby. It was so loud I could tell you the tracks the DJ was playing. I called the night manager and was offered to move to another room. However, my boyfriend, who was being treated to a this stay as part of his 40th birthday, was sleeping and I was not willing to wake him up to move him at nearly sometime around 1 am. In the morning I spoke with the FOM and was promised to be taken care of if we were to return. He promised that we would be "upgraded, upgraded, upgraded" while paying the lowest room rate. We were informed that our upgrade would span as many days as we decided to stay. I was promised a confirmation email by that afternoon, which I have not received. He did not return my phone call from yesterday. So, now I will be taking this matter up with my credit card. Frankly, it was disappointing that some compensation was not offered for that bill. -Leigh Brown , from Jersey City, United States - 9/4/2008

The hotel is located in a fantastic area of New York and away from the tourist traps of Times Square, Central Park etc. We found the hotel a pleasant place to stay but more so because of its position. With the hotel wishing to retain its mean and moody ambiance, the whole place was generally too dark and looked seedy in some parts. The lack of tea/coffee making facilities was a poor show and at this level (5*) there should at least be the offer of drinks at reasonable prices (small bottle of coke $6!)
The staff were very helpful and personable with the concierge a big help when organizing trips and restaurant bookings. Overall, we had a great stay, and the hotel is located in a great part of New York, but we would not pick this hotel again as it's not our style. -Luigi Cocozza , from Grantham, England - 5/13/2008

Gracious staff, excellent room decor and bed comfort, pretty setting on roof top--though unfortunately most of it closed for pvt. function--no view but they provide key to coveted private park across street when asked. Not much in the neighborhood but a short walk to shops, etc. pretty environs. -Scott R Johnson , from Greenwich, United States - 5/8/2008
