We were told extra pillows were unavailable, which was odd/ but overall everyone was extremely friendly. Location couldn't be better when visiting for House of Blues concert, which we were. Caution, don't order wine if using the opera boxes, they charged $18 for a plastic cup of wine. Otherwise, very enjoyable. -Kenneth Bordes , from New Lenox, United States - 3/19/2009

The location was perfect, the staff were extremely generous and the rooms offered great space. Perfect Escapes made the price worth it with free parking, free drink tickets, and a room at just over $100. A deal that couldn't be beat for a night get-a-way! -Kristi Hansen , from Davenport, United States - 3/13/2009

My friend and I chose to stay at Hotel Sax because of the great price, free parking (part of the package) and proximity to the House of Blues and Mag. Mile Shopping. We were thoroughly impressed with the room and the service we received throughout our stay. It was way beyond our expectations! The only thing I missed that you would normally find in a hotel room was a coffee maker. I had to walk a block in the rain to get a cup of coffee! -Darlene, from Olmsted Falls, United States - 3/13/2009

My Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We really enjoyed our stay, I wished we could have stayed longer. The room was beautiful!!! We also had a wonderful time at the lounge downstairs. The only thing I was not happy with was having to pay $42.00 to park, I think it should come with your stay or discounted. Overall we were truly satisfied....

It would have been a lot better if there hadn't been a constant knocking on the door and entering the room starting at 8am by the hotel staff! We had the rest sign on the door and had a 2pm checkout! -Stacy, from New Whiteland, United States - 11/20/2008

The hotel was good. Location was excellent especially since it was in the same building as Bin 36 - great for dinner and convenient for breakfast. The room was nice, but small. The bathroom was adequate. The sheets were very nice. The bed comfortable. It was listed as a recently renovated hotel and it was all of that including windows that opened (nice surprise).
The hotel staff were customer service plus. However, when we checked in, the gas card was not offered. The next day I inquired and was told that based on their records we were not eligible despite the fact that I stated my confirmation included a gas card. I was nicely told that if I could present my copies, that they would, of course provide the card. Hummmm. So, I went to the room and returned with the confirmation. A different person was at the desk and she looked up my reservation and said, "Of course we can see that your reservation includes a gas card." My expectations were not met by this situation. -Kathleen Mack , from Dripping Springs, United States - 10/30/2008
Expected More for the Price

Location is great, nice big TV, bed is comfortable, price a little high, the biggest complaint I have is there was no coffee in the room. Also my wife called down to the desk to get the phone number for Amtrak (no phone book in room ) she was transfered 3 times before receiving it. -Timothy Brown , from Van Dyne, United States - 9/26/2008
First Chicago Stay

I found the hotel well placed in the city for walking and easy cab rides to entertainment, dining and experiencing this great surprise of a city! The staff was very helpful, the Concierge great and the hotel was clean and very comfortable. Great amenities.
I would consider staying again at the hotel, and with a vast number of hotels of high caliber in Chicago, it says a great deal! I recommend the hotel. -James Crosby , from coconut creek, United States - 9/8/2008
Check In

Over all I loved Hotel Sax, but luckily I don't allow first impressions to complete my judgment. I gave Hotel Sax AMPLE warning that I would have a late arrival due to my flight from Florida arriving near midnight. Upon check in I was giving perhaps the WORST room in the hotel. After seeing the room I told the front desk that this was unacceptable. They said there was nothing they could do until the morning and to come by at 1:00 pm and I could switch rooms and bring my luggage to the new room. I went down in the morning and spoke with the manger and thankfully they switched my room and my things for me. The second room was much more to my liking and much more what I expected out of this highly recommended hotel. -Danielle Eaton , from Lehigh Acres, United States - 9/2/2008
Hotel Sax Was Great

We enjoyed it being close to the L so could take that to the ballgame. It was nice having the Williams Wolensky restaurant and then the Back Porch with the jazz and the bowling ally. The hotel has such a great location. We really enjoyed the stay. -Carol Tressler , from Greensburg, United States - 6/26/2008
Not What I Expected for the Cost
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Although the location was perfect, the room was a little less "extravagant" for the price. Not really as clean as it should be. They would be wise to be a little more reasonable in their pricing and clean up the hotel and rooms. The staff was wonderful though! Helpful and friendly. -Mary Ann Veselsky, from Mattawan, United States - 6/19/2008

A great hotel with an unusual and original style. Very funky but very functional with comfortable rooms and helpful staff. Yes it was quite expensive but great value for the quality on offer. Very convenient location too for shopping and theatre - all walking distance. -Suzanne Firkin , from Congleton, England - 6/5/2008

I'm on the road 30 weeks a year and The Sax is one of my favorite hotels. The staff is friendly and helpful. Fabulous location, the rooms are great, the food is excellent and right next to the House of Blues...what more could you ask for. -Paul, from Pittsburgh, United States - 5/6/2008
Sax Review
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The hotel was average and significantly overpriced for the value. The Leisure Package was a waste of money. Had to ask 3 times for the complimentary wine which finally showed on the 3rd day. The private access to the HOB restaurant was useless for my purpose and not well explained. And the breakfast coupons were a waste of money. They came in $50 increments and a $60 bill used $100 worth of coupons. Would never do it again. -Elizabeth Ludlam , from melbourne, United States - 3/24/2008

For a Romantic Weekend the Room/Rate Was Excellent
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Our room was beautiful and spacious, especially considering the wonderful rate we got from Perfect Escapes. The Valet service was above board, even though it was expensive ($84 for 2 days). The Only issue was with the response from the hotel staff. We had to request that a coffee maker be brought up. When we called to have housekeeping pick up the room while we were out, they didn't; we had to call them again when we returned. When we were ready to check out, we called for a porter, no one ever came up to the room to get the bags, then they fell all over us trying to help with the bags as we were walking out of the door. Overall, if you can book at a great rate (under $125 per night for the smallest room), I say go for it, but if it is costing you more than that, then they leave a lot to be desired service-wise. -Mawiah Williams, from Naperville, United States - 2/27/2008

This is THE hotel to stay at if you are attending a House of Blues Concert in Chicago. We enjoyed a concert at HOB (Buy an Opera Box at HOB to really enjoy the show). Then afterwards we walked over to Rock-it bar, then Howl at the Moon, then walked back to the hotel. Enjoyed a great night and didn't have to pay for a single cab ride. _Very_ cool. Next day we walked to Michigan Ave. for shopping and ate at Giordano's Pizza on Rush (best pizza in Chicago). You cannot beat the location - everything is right there! -Joshua Craven , from chatham, United States - 11/19/2007
