The staff are very friendly, even though they put us to a regular room while we had ocean view room reserved. They gave us a break on the price. I loved the management staff. They easily solved our problem.
Parking is a big problem.

A Little Disappointing

Not impressive. The view is amazing and you basically have your own private beach which was great. However, the pricing in the hotel is outrageous. No pop machines anywhere in the hotel which forces you to pay $4 for a can of coke from your in room minibar. I got one drink at the bar by the hotel pool (a simple strawberry daiquiri) and it was $15.27. And if you are looking to be within walking distance of South Beach, this hotel is not. It is about 2 miles or a little less each way to South Beach.
This hotel overall is average and fails to impress in the little things. Front desk staff is rude. The first night of my trip was paid for and they had to charge my card for the other remaining nights once i got there. My limit on my card was set too low so it was declined. Instead of being polite and asking me to fix it in the morning (this was at 1 am) they basically talked to me like I was lucky they were letting me stay that first night even though my first night was already paid for!

Quiet Heaven

The best thing about this hotel is the location: it isn't smack in the middle of south beach, but instead it is North of it. Hotels like Loews, National or Delano are insanely noisy in comparison. I favor staying at a place like the Palms and then walking past these other places just for fun once.
The oceanfront room I had was very nice and had an amazing view (10th floor). Try to get a high floor. The restaurant and service throughout the hotel is great. Getting chairs and drinks on the beach is very easy.
The one disappointment about the Palms is that the beach in front of the hotel, which is great, is not combed or cleaned and you will find a lot of trash lying in the sand near the water including dangerous glass, so be careful on the way to the water. This is common throughout Miami beaches, but the hotel could do a better job with the small strip of beach in front of it. But this is relatively a small issue.
Bottom line: I highly recommend this hotel for a weekend getaway
