My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Ventana and it was outstanding. We've stayed at many 5 star resorts around the world, but this place offered the whole package for a relaxing, pampered vacation. -Hazel, from Holmdel, United States - 11/18/2009
Could Be Better!

We enjoyed staying here but they need to fine tune their service to be called a luxury hotel. We got bottles of water but no bottle opener in the room. Coffee in the morning w/no cups to drink the coffee?? The complimentary breakfast is poor and we only got one fruit and one yogurt for 2 people.
The fan above the bed was so squeaky we had to turn it off. For the price they charge you they should pay a lot more attention to details. -Thomas, from San Mateo, United States - 11/6/2009

I had planned to stop in Big Sur for 1 night while driving the coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles. 2 hours after check-in I realized I needed another night at Ventana. The setting is serene and lends itself to relaxation. There were hammocks scattered about, my room had a fireplace and the staff knows just "how much" is enough. I was particularly impressed by housekeeping and the grounds - everything was impeccable. I plan to return to Ventana for many quiet weekends in the future... -Brett, from Santa Monica, United States - 10/2/2009

Good but Not the Best

Disappointing restaurant -
very disappointing sauna and hot pools - general lack of attention and clean up - whole resort lacks leadership - however very relaxing time - great restaurant, Big Sur Bakery just around the corner. -Lesley, from Virginia Beach, United States - 9/16/2009
Nice, but Nothing to Get Excited About
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My wife and I ordinarily stay in nice places, but we are certainly not snobs. But we were disappointed by our recent stay at the Ventana Inn. We had read rave ratings in Conde Naste Traveler and considered favorable reviews at TripAdvisor and other sites. We wanted luxury on the Big Sur Coast. Our failing was to understand Ventana is on the far side of the Pacific Coast Highway, and its present landscaping (which seems remiss and failing to me) obscures most views of the ocean from the property. As a result, you are for the most part situated toward the forest or to the open sky, but not seascapes. Our room was very nice but not a true upgrade as Perfect Escapes seeks to provide. The staff was unimpressive for a place of this cost. With the restaurant currently being renovated, everything is crowded in one small bistro greeting building, again quite ordinary. We went across the highway to Post Ranch Inn for drinks. MUCH more expensive but legitimately inspiring!

Absolutely Wonderful!

This is our first time in Big Sur and we wanted to experience this resort after seeing the pictures online and reading all the reviews. We booked one night through Perfect Escapes which included an early check in at 12 noon, and a late check out at 4pm plus a complimentary upgrade. When we arrived at the hotel about 20 min. to 12, they did not fuss about the time and immediately proceeded to check us in! The front desk receptionist was so friendly and personable! She gave us an upgrade to a superior hot tub room and my, my, this is a truly awesome room. The hot tub in the private patio is just wonderful, it has a view of the garden and the ocean in the distance. Although it was overcast both days, it was still heavenly to be so close to nature while soaking in the hot tub. My husband and I agree that after staying at the Ventana Inn, we are now spoiled - it is going to be very difficult to enjoy other hotels that offer less. Kudos to Perfect Escapes and Kudos to Ventana Inn! -Charlotte, from duarte, United States - 8/23/2009
The Zen Feel of the Ventana
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Perched on a hill overlooking the ocean at Big Sur, The Ventana Inn is a peaceful getaway from the drudges of the workplace. The rooms are large, well appointed and the rustic feel of the wooded setting creates a peaceful environment to escape and relax. The restaurant is good and the continental included breakfast is healthy and filled with choices. We opted for the hike with an experienced guide off the property's hiking path and went on a guided hike of the coast and mountainside to experience the natural beauty of Big Sur. It was a romantic paradise, a genuine escape. the bed was comfortable, the balcony offered a peaceful respite and the bathroom was large and comfortable. The overall experience was extraordinary. The concierge and the staff were extremely helpful and they offer shuttle service to area restaurants. One could not plan a more perfect escape. We are looking forward to our next Ventana visit in the spring. -Micchael Stachowski , from Buffalo, United States - 8/19/2009

Ventana Inn and Spa Is Wonderful

Staying here is like going to camp for the pampered adult. Rooms are rustic yet luxurious. The grounds, spa and pools are splendid. The food is suddenly better than in previous years and the breakfasts alone are worth a trip. Plus you can hike through a redwood forest that is on the property and then in 15 minutes be at one of the best wild beaches in the world. -Kenneth Clarke , from Chicago, United States - 4/18/2009

We had a very memorable stay here. As Perfect Escapes promised, we got an upgraded room, although we were unable to get a late checkout. The grounds here are very well maintained, and the food, Japanese baths, walking trail, and room architecture were unique and enjoyable. -Ajay, from San Francisco, United States - 4/17/2009

This is a fabulous place. The setting is incredible, the facilities are first rate and the service is exceptional. The only aspect that did not exceed our expectations was the room, which was a forest view fireplace room. The room was very nice, but not exceptional. Some of the other accommodations -- especially those with ocean views and hot tub decks -- looked amazing. -Jesse Marino , from San Luis Obispo, United States - 4/2/2009

A Warm, Luxurious Escape

We stayed at Ventana for just one night, but had a wonderful time while we were there. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive, and if it weren't for wanting to explore the trails and beaches of Big Sur, we could have had plenty to do on-site at the resort to keep us entertained, including morning yoga, a guided hike, sitting by the pool or enjoying the Japanese baths. We would definitely return to Ventana and highly recommend it. -Gretchen, from Oakland, United States - 1/25/2009
