Lovely hotel in a gorgeous setting. Excellent service, spacious rooms, great views. Easy to walk to many shops, restaurants, and the Aquarium. Wish we could have stayed another day. -Karen, from Naperville, United States - 1/5/2010
Depends on Room Location
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Early check-in with no problems and a room upgrade to ocean view so we were more than happy. I can see how some room locations would have been disappointing. Great location for walking to everything. Valet great/professional/fast. -Sean Conners , from Nevada City, United States - 1/4/2010
Off-Season Overnight Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The staff were wonderful and the accommodations were lovely. As we traveled off-season, the hotel was extremely quiet and the staff paid close attention to our needs. The weather was beautiful and the spa treatments we received were quite relaxing, although a bit expensive relative to other spas. The food at the hotel restaurants (at least breakfast and lunch) was quite good as well. -Christy, from San Jose, United States - 11/24/2009
What a Great Hotel!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
From the time my wife and I arrived until the morning we checked out, our experience at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa was nothing short of spectacular! The overall service was outstanding, the employees extremely friendly, the rooms beautifully decorated and spacious and the views unforgettable! We also had a great rate via Perfect Escapes and were upgraded to an ocean view room at check in. This is truly a world class hotel! -David Wilkerson , from Dalton, United States - 9/30/2009

We had a superb time, all hotel staff very pleasant. We had to remind the front desk when checking in about the room upgrade. But they accommodated. Everything was grand. Enjoyed it tremendously. -Meg and Tom Chambers , from Wilmette, United States - 9/29/2009

Great Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We had a great room overlooking the bay. Other than a problem with the front desk not showing the package and price that I booked through Perfect Escapes, everything else was perfect. All the staff was great at the hotel, except at check-in. The hotel was very clean, as was our room. Just make sure that you have a copy of your reservation price and included amenities at the time of check-in. -Paul, from Lindenhurst, United States - 6/30/2009

Weekend Luxury

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. We felt pampered by the way everyone treated us. They even turned our bed down one night. Absolutely everything about this hotel was excellent and we can't wait to come back. Food was great in all the hotel restaurants. Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff. -Colleen Tillis , from Fullerton, United States - 6/26/2009
Manager Made Up for Desk Clerk
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
When checking in I inquired about our "free upgrade" which was listed from Perfect Escapes. The desk clerk, Peter, was condescending, and not helpful. He stated that Perfect Escapes is a misleading website (I have used them for 2 years, never been misled). He said there were no upgraded rooms available, and he indicated that the upgrade clearly stated it was based on availability. We settled for our original room, and the manager called and offered us a couple of different upgrades to look at. We ended up with a fantastic room, and a great stay. Everyone else from the bell boy to the valet were helpful and treated us wonderfully. -Lea Cabrera , from Tampa, United States - 6/18/2009

Fabulous!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We had a wonderful experience last weekend. We arrived late at night, and were upgraded as per the Perfect Escapes website to a partial ocean view (mostly ocean view) from a Cannery Row view and we slept to the sound of waves crashing and birds singing. The room was beautiful. The next day, we were allowed a 3pm checkout, which was fantastic as my husband was at a conference all day so I had a place to relax. Service was great and the hotel is super convenient to the aquarium. You can buy a 2-day pass, no waiting, at the hotel lobby for the same price as a one day pass at the aquarium itself. Great deal! Be warned that there is a mandatory $25 resort fee, which covers 24hr valet, and internet access, but it was worth it as parking is expensive in Monterey and we kept it there after check out while we went to the aquarium and dinner. -AJ, from Sausalito, United States - 5/14/2009
Great Location!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This was a beautiful hotel on the inside and outside. The view and location were amazing! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and because we booked with Perfect Escapes we were upgraded to an ocean view room (a difference of $200). It was such a peaceful and wonderful experience!!! Also, it is in a perfect location to be able to walk down Cannery Row. The staff was very helpful with directions and advice. We were able to check in at 1:00pm with no questions asked even though they state check in is 4:00pm. Our room was a little far from the front desk (quite a windy trek) but it is a big hotel and we really didn't have to keep going back to the front desk for anything (there was a closer exit). The only complaint I have is my understanding was that we were guaranteed a 3:00pm check out (through P.E.) and when we called from the room to tell them we expected to be leaving around 2:00pm, they gave us a hard time about this, saying any later and we would be charged extra. -Joshua, from Anchorage, United States - 4/30/2009

Horrible
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
- Unfriendly staff
- Bogus resort fees: mandatory $25 fee even though we told them upfront we would not use any of the spa/valet parking/internet access it's supposed to cover.
- Room was very disappointing for the price. Looked old. View of "historic cannery row" was actually the facade of the hotel.
- Hotel exterior was under construction, and reception was not easily accessible. No signage telling you where to enter.
- Only good thing was the breakfast (excellent waffles) and nice views on the ocean. -Gregory, from Newark, United States - 3/22/2009
Monterey Plaza

We had a wonderful stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. We received the Perfect Escapes complimentary upgrade to an ocean view room that was truly spectacular. We listened to the waves crashing all night. The amenities are top notch and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very polite and catered to all our needs. We will stay here again. -Rob Cone , from Benicia, United States - 1/29/2009
Nice but Staff Easily Overwhelmed!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
It is a beautiful hotel - literally on the beach. When we checked in there was a long line and only 2 staff people checking in guests. Also there was lots of construction! The whole front entrance is closed. You have to walk around the corner with all of your stuff. Our room was across the street in a separate building so after we checked in we had to walk around the corner again with all of our stuff! No staff to help - and no help was offered. There is a sky bridge that connects the main building with the building across the street but they said it was closed because the AC was broken... whatever. Also, when we called for room service they put us on hold for over 10 minutes and we gave up. We called the concierge but guess what - they put us on hold. Logistics aside, it is a beautiful location right on the beach with a view of the Bay that is just spectacular. Rooms are very nice but again, the staff seems to be overworked. -Helen, from Manhattan Beach, United States - 1/23/2009
January 2009 Visit
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Stayed the first week in January. Hotel Staff was very pleasant and professional. The grounds were very clean. The Garden View room was perfect and VERY quiet. We didn't really hear any sounds from the hallway or adjacent rooms unlike some other hotels we have stayed at. The location at the North end of Cannery Row is very convenient. Many great restaurants within walking distance. Don't worry about the minor construction near the guest entrance. We never heard any sounds from this project. Looks like they are not that far off from completion anyway. Great views from the Lobby/Lounge area. The exercise room is very nice with a lot of good equipment and great views for your workout to pass the time. We enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend this property. Enjoy! -Thomas Oates , from Grass Valley, United States - 1/9/2009
Awesome Stay

Was very satisfied with our short stay at the hotel. Everyone was very helpful and delightful. Wish that our entire stay of our vacation was there. Had I known that that the other places we stayed were fairly close I would had booked all our stay here. Definitely worth the extra money. It was a beautiful hotel and was very convenient to area attractions. I would definitely recommend the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa to anyone that wants a great place to stay. -Marilyn Gates , from Stowe, United States - 9/21/2008

Elegance With a View
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We had booked a Cannery Row room, and upon arriving were directed there. The room was very nice (comfortable bed, robe, etc.), with a view over Cannery Row. However, the curtains couldn't be left open, because people could see in from the street (we were on level two of the tower, but still quite visible from the street.) Also, there was a lot of noise in the early morning from garbage pickup and other activities. Due to that noise we requested a room change and were moved to a smaller room -- overlooking the water. The room was actually somewhat noisier all night long -- with the sound of the waves and birds. In a word, fantastic! -Bruce, from Pleasant Hill, United States - 7/29/2008
Sleepless Nights
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This was our second stay. We booked a room for $240 a night on the Cannery Road side. We unfortunately received a location overlooking the intersection of two busy roads and the noise at night and in the early morning was unbearable. The second night, we had to call to have our room made up at 3:00pm and then the staff forgot the turn-down service. The spa was excellent and the room comfortable but we wouldn't go out of our way to stay here again. -Ellen Calman , from West Windsor, United States - 7/23/2008

The only disappointment we had was with the service and food at the Duck Club. Slow service and less than expected quality of food for the price.

Rooms Facing Parking Lot
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
While the hotel is lovely, and the rooms very comfortable, at our last stay, we had a room facing the parking lot. It was an unpleasant outlook and was noisy during the night. That made our experience overall unpleasant and very different from our previous stays at this hotel. -Dina Bitton , from san francisco, United States - 6/19/2008
Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My wife and I planning to return to the States within two years, and I can assure you we shall be returning to the Monterey Plaza. Without doubt, the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! I would hope all the renovations etc. will be completed which will make the hotel even more spectacular. I suppose the only thing that niggles me in the States is the tax that is imposed on practically everything. I paid tax on the bottled water in the room. Was that correct? I should point out first class service from hotel and restaurant staff.

Nice, luxury hotel.... but the main entrance is under reconstruction and the workers start at 7.30 am!!!

A Very Good Deal
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We spent three holiday nights there. The staff was unfailingly polite and friendly all around the hotel. We were happy and surprised to receive breakfast vouchers for the lovely waterfront dining room — they included the buffet, too, which was pretty generous and high quality. The only downside was that the hotel outdid the town in our opinion, which is the only reason we might not go back. -Karin, from New York, United States - 1/7/2008

Beautiful Hotel--Unusual Fitness Center Hours
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I was not the only one to complain about the extremely early closure of the fitness center. Most people get up early to do sightseeing in the area (especially in the winter, when the sun sets so early), not to exercise. I understand the spa services closing early--but what about everything else?? -Jyll Portnoy , from philadelphia, United States - 1/2/2008
