Overview
Nestled among the oaks and vineyards of scenic Carmel Valley, savor the gracious intimacy of a resort with epicurean flair. Feather beds, cozy fireplaces and oversized bathtubs for two. Vintage wine and cheese welcome. A "wine grotto" mini bar. The spa's meditation garden, warming room and soaking pool. And dining at Marinus, voted one of the Zagat's Top Restaurants in the Bay Area.
The Spa at Bernardus Lodge is a haven for rejuvenation and well being, offering a full range of pampering treatments and services in 5,300 square feet of space. It features seven treatment rooms, a "warming room," an exercise room, men's and women's locker rooms as well as sauna and steam facilities, and a beauty salon. An open-air "warming pool" and meditation garden with bubbling fountains let guests soothe their bodies and spirits with a therapeutic soak and quiet reflection. Indigenous herbs, flowers, essential oils, and healing waters are incorporated into the spa's treatments.
Four of the rooms at the Spa at Bernardus are reserved for massage and body treatments, two are for facials, and one is specially tailored for wet treatments and includes a Vichy shower and private steam room. The Vineyard Room is designed for couples and has two treatment tables, a shower built for two and French doors leading to an outdoor therapy bath. In the warming room, guests can wrap themselves in a chenille throw blanket, lounge in a comfortable chair near the fireplace, and enjoy a soothing cup of herbal tea as they await their treatments.

The Bernardus Lodge emphasizes quality and service in every aspect of the property. The staff is enthusiastic and happy to assist in any manner. Most guests partake of breakfast on their peaceful private balconies. The food: Oh My! Wickets and the Michelin starred Marinus are both delightful. Every item on your table is prepared and presented perfectly. There is a wide range of entrees between the two restaurants and we sampled: steak, halibut, artichoke, polenta, french fries (truffled!), risotto, and lamb. All were delightful, inventively prepared, delicate and very, very tasty. The extensive wine list and the knowledgeable wine steward will ensure that your wine is well paired with your meal. We look forward to returning to the Bernardus Lodge many times.

Fantastic Carmel Valley Experience

Bernardus is a gem of a hotel. It is a beautiful small property (about 55 rooms) nestled into a canyon in Carmel Valley ~ 10 miles East of Carmel. The service level is very high yet not intrusive. They have great restaurants and wonderful grounds. The most coveted spot is in front of the outdoor fireplace at night. Bernardus is a great spot from which to enjoy the Monterey Bay – beauty of Point Lobos, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Big Sur, restaurants and shopping in Carmel, and Monterey. The property is so nice that it is tempting not to leave it though. They have complimentary Wifi and even stock a refreshment bar free of charge in your room with wine, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and some light snacks. My wife and I cannot wait to go back.
