Amara, So So

Having stayed at many 4-star hotels/spas this was not up to par. Neither reception nor room literature had any schedule of events posted. Breakfast was nothing to write home about and was same each day. -G, from Sylvania, United States - 8/12/2009

It was most enjoyable. The staff is extremely polite and are always on call. The rooms are most comfortable. The scenery is awesome and the shops are fun. This is certainly a resort to which I will return. -Mary, from Coronado, United States - 6/23/2009
Great Value

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Amara Resort and Spa. I just wished we had upgraded to a view room to take advantage of the stunning creek and red rock views. Even in a standard room we were quite comfortable. Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were delivered to our room within hours of our arrival. We used the dining credit for dinner at the Hundred Rox. We sat outside to take advantage of the warm evening and amazing views. The wait staff were wonderful and recommended an excellent wine. I have no complaints. The service was great, the food was good, and the atmosphere was so romantic. The next morning I took a yoga class at the spa. Rachel the instructor took the time to help with adjustments and created an extremely peaceful environment. I definitely recommend this resort and booking through Perfect Escapes. The amenities that Perfect Escapes provided made this an extremely good value for an unforgettable evening. Thank you Perfect Escapes! -Alia Williams , from Eagle River, United States - 6/9/2009
Happy Customer

I was very happy with my stay here! I stayed at the Enchantment Resort the 2 nights prior and wasn't sure what to expect due to the reviews. I was very pleased! The location is great, the beds are awesome, restaurant is excellent, the hotel is right on Oak Creek, and is also next door to the L'Auberge Hotel (which is a sister hotel) and has a cute outdoor restaurant area. The spa services I had (facial and energy balancing) were both excellent! I will definitely go back to Amara! -Elsa Castillo , from Chicago, United States - 5/28/2009
Mini-Moon

We spent two nights after our wedding here calling it our mini-moon. It was wonderful we enjoyed the wine tasting, the star gazing activities and breakfast in bed. Very polite service and elegant atmosphere. The beds were incredibly comfortable! -Melanie Eltz , from Washington, United States - 5/11/2009
Wonderful Anniversary Destination

My husband and I just spent our 10 year anniversary at Amara. It was a beautiful resort with picture perfect scenery. We were upgraded as promised to a creekside suite, received our free breakfast every morning and got the bottle of champagne and chocolates as promised through booking through Perfect Escapes.
The staff was friendly and took great care of us. We had no complaints!
The bed was also the most comfortable we have ever slept in. -Louise Duchnowski , from Peoria, United States - 5/4/2009

We were placed in a room adjacent to construction at the next property. The workers began at 7 am which was not conducive to relaxation. They were aware we were getting married in the courtyard. They had no record of the breakfast package that was included in our reservation until I showed them the printout I had luckily printed out prior to our arrival. It was not fixed until check-out when I pointed out the error. We did receive our champagne and chocolates but not the upgrade. The man who checked us in really had no clue as to what he was doing. The guys who worked the valet services were very speedy and accommodating. -Lori Vavrek , from sturtevant, United States - 4/21/2009

Everything:promised room upgrade, champagne and candy in room, free breakfast in bed in the morning etc. happened. The room was overlooking the creek in back and beautiful doesn't fully describe how nice it was. Champagne and candy waiting in the room for my fiance and a huge jet jacuzzi in the bathroom. -John Thomas , from Chandler, United States - 4/20/2009

They surpised us with a $20./day "resort fee", which is just another way to increase the rate without calling it a rate change. I still don't know what the fee included. We had to ask for the Champaign. We asked about breakfast being included. They said "just charge it to your room and it will be credited." It wasn't. We disputed the bill when we checked out. After much delay and multiple adjustments, we were told that the credit was good for up to $35. The "hot" tub was not hot the one night that we needed it after a cold and rainy day. To top it off, when we returned to our room to take a hot shower around 9pm, we received a call from the front desk telling us that they had a complaint that we were "jumping around and making too much noise." That really put a damper on in our opinion. -David, from Chesterfield, United States - 4/17/2009

Where do I start...we paid the extra for a creek side room, which was no larger than a 12 by 20 room, 240 sq. ft. The room darkening curtain was full of holes. The sliding door to the little balcony kept getting stuck. The decor was not much to speak of, red walls, a TV unit with storage on each side, one chair and one office chair, but the bed was comfortable. The bathroom fixtures were difficult to turn especially in the shower. The soaking tub was nice, but if you're short you need a step stool to get in to it or go head first. Don't expect to get sleep if you have guests above you. We traveled from the east coast to enjoy the comforts and magic of Sedona but the ones above were partying all night. Spoke to the manager Alex the next morning about it, who said he had "no control" over what guests do in their rooms, apologized though, how nice. Breakfast was included but I didn't recall asking for the chipped dishes to go along with the pancakes. Not a place I would recommend. -Margaret, from Lexington, United States - 4/15/2009

Staff service was weak. Hotel allows staff to sit behind the main reception desk and they act as if you are interrupting them whenever you approach the desk. Evening person had her two kids with her and couldn't be bothered to look up. Had problems with check-out as they did not take off the breakfasts and had a dinner and lunch charged to our room which we did not incur. Did not receive an upgrade to my room or to early check-in despite very few guests at the hotel. Overall was an alright place to stay, but do not know that I would return. Do not consider it to be a luxury property. -Kristie Paskvan , from Chicago, United States - 4/2/2009

Amazing Amara
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I booked a stay here for a trip my girlfriend and I took to AZ so I could propose. We were promptly upgraded to a creekside room because of Perfect Escapes. The lobby was modern and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony was small but had a perfect view of the creek and was relaxing and quiet.
The room included free Wifi which was much appreciated. The free breakfast was fresh and perfectly prepared. Champagne chilling in our room with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries was really nice. The grounds were well groomed and beautiful, with views of the red rocks and features including a fire pit. The pool was nice and heated, and right next to it was the jacuzzi. In-room jacuzzi was nice too.
Upon our departure checkout was a breeze and when our final bill had some charges on it not belonging to us the manager promptly removed them. I did think the resort fees were included in the package I reserved, but was informed that was not true, which was fine. -Augusto, from NEW YORK, United States - 2/15/2009

We really enjoyed the Amara Resort. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the fridge was handy for the kids. The view was great and we loved being right on the creek. We also loved the wine reception, breakfast and champagne and strawberries. The hotel was in a great location and the service was friendly and helpful. -Kelly Bredimus , from Scottsdale, United States - 1/7/2009
My Thoughts...
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Very pleasant property and well located; The term resort and spa is a misnomer though. The pool is tiny, the grounds mostly concrete except for a small patch of lawn.
Though i was overall pleased with my stay, i killed a total of 11 insects that kept creeping into the room over a 5 day visit
I also found the used room service trays languished in the halls way too long. There was one evening the halls reeked of fish due to left over food tray (perhaps reason for the insects???) I had to call the front desk on this.
the ice machine didn't work 2 out of 5 days, forcing me to either go upstairs via elevator or across the court to the other building.
The Concierge Patricia was phenomenal and worth her weight in gold. She made the difference between a ho hum stay and a pleasant enjoyable stay. -Peter, from New York, United States - 1/6/2009

A Must Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I have stayed in many resorts in many countries (23 to be specific) and I have to say-that Amara is among the topmost in quality, service, and friendliness. It is a five-star resort with spa facilities. The two best things I can say were our waiter 'Miguel' at the restaurant and Jack the valet- very courteous, went the extra mile, and just very nice. Would go back anytime. Wonderful view of the creek and rock formations. -Darshak, from Philadelphia, United States - 12/5/2008

Had to remind staff that we were entitled to special amenities with our package. Once that was resolved, we were given a room with a beautiful view of the creek and woods. Room very large, had very little furniture, and was not well lite. There was a very large mirror (6Hx3W) just sitting on the floor. Bath has a wonderful bath. Bar has great views of the red rocks. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Would go back! -Michael Galletti , from lansdale, United States - 12/3/2008

The property itself is conveniently located to shopping and dining (walking distance) and close to hiking. The property sits on Oak Creek which is beautiful. The rooms were nice, not fancy, bathrooms lacked counter space for toiletries. Front desk personnel were very unhelpful overall. Housekeeping was poor, room was not even made up one day and when cleaned never gave new shampoos etc. Valets were wonderful in giving helpful info about resort and area. Wait staff were also very attentive and food at breakfast was wonderful. Yoga class in AM was a great way to start day and I wish yoga was available at other times too. Spa was very small and expensive compared to other places in Sedona which we used instead. Hot tub also very small.
Would like to stay here again because of location and daily yoga, but not sure due to poor housekeeping and very unhelpful front desk staff. Also during wine tasting, bar tender very cold and not nice. Expected better for the price and overall -Mary Goldstein , from Novelty, United States - 11/21/2008

-was not willing to upgrade room even though the hotel seemed empty
-spa was ok and was not as luxurious as advertised
-restaurant service was slow

We booked this hotel through Perfect Escapes which amenities included a room upgrade, champagne and chocolate on arrival and complimentary breakfasts. Upon arrival and check-in the front desk was not aware of any of this and we ended up in a room next to the maintenance area the first night, and no champagne. The next day the misunderstanding was straightened out and an upgraded room was made available. The restaurant was fairly good, the doormen friendly and helpful and the concierge gave us good advice for tours. The hotel has a beautiful setting in the middle of upper Sedona and had very nice landscaping. Our upgraded room overlooked a beautiful stream.

Nice location, very nice setting.
Wish the door could be thicker. We could hear the doors from other rooms and also the maids' voice in the early morning (they really should train the maids to be more considerate, especially in the early morning hours, like around 7AM!). -Jeanine, from Morristown , United States - 9/30/2008

Almost everyone at the hotel was great, with one exception. One of the front desk clerks said "we don't know what to do with the Perfect Escape people". This was in response to our questions regarding; chocolate, champagne, and free breakfasts. We thought it odd that we had to ask about this, rather than being told what we could expect. The hotel did come through with everything as promised. -Arthur O'connor , from Portland, United States - 9/29/2008

We loved this place. The staff was wonderful, as is the location. Spectacular views of Snoopy Rock and the creek. The room was spacious and the bed was awesome. Love the outside deck with the water features and the fire pits. The night we were there they offered a free wine tasting and stargazing class, which was super cool. Wish we could have stayed longer. -Amy, from atlanta, United States - 9/24/2008
