Excellent Hotel, Transient Neighborhood
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This is a fantastic hotel (especially at $99/night, $150 + $50 food credit) but the neighborhood is noisy all night with lots of transients. -Christopher, from tujunga, United States - 8/20/2009
Mixed Feelings

Pro's: Beautiful remodeled old style hotel, nice staff, friendly, in a great location in the Gaslamp section. It was within easy walking distance to Horton Plaza for shopping and had many nice restaurants on the streets nearby. Lots of 'street' people in this area, although they basically stayed to themselves. Good looking room (at first) with very nice towels and linens and a comfortable king sized bed with lots of pillows. Nice lounge off the lobby with a very good jazz trio after 8pm, we enjoyed the music. We did not try their 'Grille' restaurant.
Con's: While my room was supposed to be an upgrade it was rather small. The bathroom was nicely appointed but the strange Deco sink had no place to put your toiletries so they ended up on top of the toilet tank or in our bag on the floor. In addition, the sink barely drained and the weird faucet handle was difficult to use. We needed to use the air conditioning because of hot weather and the windows did not open. -David Kuebler, from Menifee, CA, United States - 7/18/2009

Old-Fashioned Elegance
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The hotel has a pleasantly old-fashioned air to it. It is quiet and elegant with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable but unobtrusive staff. Mark, the concierge was outstanding.
The room and bathroom were a good size, comfortable and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable, indeed. The Continental breakfast from room service was good and arrived on time. However, cooked breakfast in the Grant Grill was disappointing. Did not dine in the restaurant. List price for the room in which I stayed was much too high. Even at the reduced rate from Perfect Escapes, I consider it an extravagance. It was a very pleasant change from and alternative to the larger (and only slightly cheaper) hotels near the convention center, and I enjoyed the 10 minute walk each way. -Charles, from Hartland, United States - 5/22/2008

Overall very nice stay. Good location, excellent food although a la carte as only option for breakfast was more expensive than anticipated - and supposed to be included in price of room as booked over internet. Bed very comfortable. Room lovely. -Kim Taubman , from Hawthorn East, Australia - 10/30/2007
Loved the Bed
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We loved the bed. It was so comfortable and the bed linens are to die for. The room was small and the view outside wasn't the best (remember to close your curtains!!!). The walls are very thin. We could hear people in the hallway after the bars closed. We were also a bit taken back by the scale in the minibar. You couldn't put anything in the fridge, everything is weighed and it senses when something is removed and charges you accordingly. There is no complimentary airport shuttle, so you're on your own. You would think at $349 a night they would offer some extras for the $$$. But, the location is excellent. There were tons of fabulous restaurants and shops all within walking distance. -Sharon Stinnett, from Street, United States - 10/8/2007
