The Wigwam was originally built in 1918 and served as lodging for visiting executives of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Later in 1929 The Wigwam opened to the public over the Thanksgiving holiday since then The Wigwam has undergone extensive renovations, restorations and expansions to become one of the most popular destinations in the southwest. Rooms are arranged in a quaint village setting amidst rows of colorful flowers, lush lawns and towering palms . The Wigwam Resort is the only resort in Arizona offering three 18 hole golf courses on property. Two of these courses were designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. who is consistently honored by the industries top golf publications. The Wigwam is considered among the finest traditional golf facilities in the Southwest. The term Wigwam means dome-shaped dwelling that was used by Native Americans chiefly by Algonquian Tribes of the Eastern Woodlands of the United States. Generally larger than the conical tepee, the wigwam was constructed of an arched pole framework covered by bark, hides or mats of reeds. The huts were sometimes conical or rectangular in shape and small wigwams for single families. Our rooms are described by this Spanish term because of their southwestern adobe-style structure and each one having its own private patio or balcony . 70 percent of the property is single-story casitas. The term casita means a small house.

- Babysitting - Camp Pow Wow..half day hours are 0800-1200 or 1200-1600. Full day hours are 0800-1600 lunch is included . Children must be at least 5 years of age and a minimum of 2 children is required for Camp Pow Wow. A 48 hour advance reservation is required. Additionally a 24 hour cancellation policy is in effect at the time of scheduling. Activities include..tennis clinics..swimming..arts and crafts..croquet. .driving range and putting green privileges..bicycling.. shuffleboard and Walt Disney movies.
