Poor Service and Pricey Parking and Amenities

Very pricey for what u get. Million dollar homes surround property and take over on weekends making loud music until 4am or longer and hotel will not even say sorry or move your room. Just pay big bucks then get told to deal with it, how rude.

Great Escape

I loved my time at the Estancia. I was there with a friend who would have liked to be less secluded (of course La Jolla is just a short drive away). However, I found the environment to be fantastic and was glad that I felt like I was truly away from it all. The staff was terrific. The pool great. And, we enjoyed evening cocktails at Mustangs and Burros.

Great Hotel Other Than The Rooms

Restaurants, bars, pools and grounds of the resort were all excellent almost 5 star quality. The room I was given though surprised me. Very small. Bathroom with shower in tub. Old T.V., bed and other furniture more like a 3 star hotel. I did forget that in the package we reserved we were supposed to get a room upgrade. Maybe if that happened we would have been happier.

Quick Getaway

We came to Estancia to celebrate my b-day and just to decompress. The food and drinks were wonderful! The staff was friendly and great service. It was great just to relax and read by the pool. I do suggest this area should be a cell free zone. Other than that I was surprised by the valet-only parking. I felt a little trapped, especially forgetting a few things in the car.

Excessive Parking Fees

This is a very nice property and the staff was very cordial and helpful.
I do feel the $25.00 required valet charge to park your car is greatly excessive and for this reason I probably would not stay at this property again. Our room had a noise coming from some pipes in the ceiling of the bathroom which I complained about but which was not fixed. We requested another room due to this noise but were told none were available.

Relaxing Overnight

Beautiful, relaxing setting. The sangria margarita at Burros is a must. The staff was very professional, attentive and helpful. Breakfast buffet on Sunday on the outdoor veranda overlooking the courtyard was very pleasant. The late check-out was a plus.

Tranquility at La Jolla

Estancia is a perfect hotel as a local getaway. The grounds are so beautiful and relaxing. The rooms that open out to the courtyard and grassy areas feel like a little private retreat. The nightly jazz band at the restaurant is also nice.

Surprise Charge

Upon check-in we were told that we were to pay an additional $25 per day for parking. This was not explained by Perfect Escapes to us beforehand. I called PE and spoke with Dia who took the parking charge off our bill. I think it should be made more clear that no service charges does not necessarily mean that there will not be parking charges.

We Love Estancia!

We have stayed at the Estancia 4 times now and are always pleased and hate to leave. It feels more like a private home than a hotel and is conveniently located between La Jolla and Del Mar thus giving one the choice of many restaurants and beaches. The staff is always helpful and friendly. As an avid gardener I always delight in their garden which is the best example of how beautiful a drought tolerant garden can be. It is also child friendly while still providing the tranquility that people without children expect from a hotel. The food is great (especially the breakfast buffet) and the bartenders know how to make a great margarita!

We had a lovely room. It seemed that there were several wedding celebrations and business meetings going on at the time we were there. It is great for a "Girls Get-A-Way". It is convenient to the bus line that can take you into San Diego or the town of La Jolla. We were led to believe there was a courtesy car that would take us to the village of La Jolla, but apparently, this isn't true. One clerk would tell us yes, and the next maybe. You do either need to know how to use the bus system or have your own car to get around as it is not in the village of La Jolla. The day we wanted to use the spa they were renovating it, so we couldn't. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. When we did have trouble with a light in the closet that wouldn't stay off, they fixed it immediately. The folks that worked there were more than kind. I would return in a skinny minute.

Hotel staff very nice and pleasant. Route to room from lobby and restaurants a little circuitous. Terrible noise Sat night because of wedding party. Couldn't sleep until 2 AM due to noise and yelling. Breakfast buffet very nice.

This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in (and I've stayed in a few!). The architecture had a strong Spanish influence, the rooms and public areas were beautifully appointed, the gardens were superb (the things you can do with succulents!) and the food was top rate. I don't think I've ever stayed in a better value for money establishment. This was my first time in San Diego, but I'll be back as much to stay in this hotel again as to further explore the very welcoming and interesting San Diego.

Very nice hotel. Were there for a wedding and reception. A very fine job done by all. The food was very good, we had room service breakfast 2 mornings and then the reception appetizers on the lawn and the dinner. All was very good.

Nice Hotel but Needs Improvement

My wife and I stayed here for our 1st wedding anniversary and while the hotel grounds were beautiful, I wouldn't call this a five star hotel. First off, they only have valet parking which is a $25 extra charge per day which both Perfet Escapes and the hotel failed to mention. The hotel doesn't automatically give any upgrades or anything extra unless you specifically ask for it or put up a bit of a fight for it. Our room was nice but it seems that with the special you don't get the upgraded room with a balcony so ASK for it. The breakfast buffet was average, the fruit served though was very good, but not worth $17 per person, so lucky it was included with our package. My wife loved the spa and said staff were excellent. The pool was very nice and relaxing, beautiful area. If you have more than two people in your party get there early. Our bed was a king and very comfortable with a down comforter. Staff was friendly, but at times understaffed at both the front desk and restauran

gentleman who realized we were lost and gave us directions to where we were going.
The accommodations
were comfortable and clean.
The rooms very quiet, which is greatly appreciated. The jacuzzi wasn't too hot. The pool was so relaxing. The
landscape added to
the idea of being peaceful and relaxing. We were
only able to stay one night, but it was a lovely stay. If it had not
been for the Perfect
Escapes special we
could not have afforded staying here. So glad we could, as we really needed a time away, even if it was for just one night.

Need to Improve Level of Hospitality!

For being a luxury, spa resort, I was not impressed with the level of hospitality when calling or checking in. My package included a free upgrade upon check-in, if available. The girl at the front desk did not answer the question, but sent us to a room. Our room was a standard room overlooking the courtyard, but had no balcony. We called the front desk to see if there was a balcony room available. There was so we had to relocate rooms. Don't understand why this was not honored at check-in in the first place. Was inconvenient to switch rooms. Bell-boys were great. Wine bar was awful!!!!!!! Selection was terrible and food was terrible. Outdoor bar was much better. Spa was just Okay...again, the level of hospitality was lacking. Massage was very vanilla.

Great Staff

The hotel has beautiful gardens. Wonderful staff, always around to help. The restaurant serves bountiful breakfasts. The rooms were not what we had hoped for. The carpets need cleaning, the drapes have soaked up water and have mildewed and we could hear everyone opening and closing their doors. For the price we paid, the room was disappointing. We had just moved over from a four day stay at the Marriott La Jolla and it seemed that we moved down in hotel class, rather than up, while paying a considerable amount more. The rest of the hotel was perfect, but at the end of the day it's the room that counts for comfort. The front desk noted that the carpets "in all the rooms need cleaning". If you can get a clean, quiet room, it would live up to its class rating.

This was a very nice experience, overall. I'd recommend Estancia as a place to get away and chill out for a few days. The only problem was their breakfast service where the staff were a bit clueless and the "boss" needed some training in manner (customer service). Otherwise, a very nice place to stay. Wonderfully Relaxing

Quiet, comfort, and lovely amenities. The Estancia looks like an older property, with its lush vegetation, manicured lawns, and beautiful blooms. Very fitting for its location in La Jolla. I was surprised to learn that it is only 4 years old! I met friends in a comfortable setting outside the lobby and then moved in for drinks and appetizers in the Burros patio bar. Great margaritas! I enjoyed my room with small balcony and comfy chair for reading. I had a facial at the spa and was very pleased and loved the small patio on the women's side for relaxing after. I had a breakfast buffet that had many options and all that I tried were good. All staff members were very friendly, helpful, and responsive to my requests.

Relax & Enjoy

My husband and I truly enjoyed the week we spent at the Estancia. We didn't do anything special, just needed a vacation from our hectic lives. However, if we had wanted to relax further, there was plenty of spa treatments available! The food in the dining rooms was very good and the service was also good. The morning buffet or order breakfast was delicious and enough to keep us going through until dinner.
Room service was excellent and the staff very accommodating.
If you want a place to just relax and enjoy the weather, I suggest the Estancia in La Jolla, California. You won't be sorry.

I was pleased with everything. I hate paying resort fees for what would normally be expected and that was nice that it was included in the package. I appreciated the afternoon snack/beverages in the lobby. Beautiful grounds, nice, but not great breakfast although the coffee was very good. Nice workout facility and easy access to the freeways. People were exceptionally nice although one young desk person did not know the opening time of the informal restaurant was corrected by her colleague.

Estancia = Serenity

Upon my arrival to the Estancia, I was greeted by name. I had never been there before and found this odd and delightful. The staff was accommodating throughout my stay. The outdoor jacuzzi and saline pool are just heavenly under the stars. The only negative was that it was a long walk from my room to the conference center, but even that wasn't all bad, as I had a chance to enjoy the lovely grounds and the chirping birds. I just loved my stay here. During breaks of our conference, I could go outside and enjoy the weather. One day, there was a bunny munching on grass outside the conference rooms. Would definitely recommend. Oh, except for the $15 spa fee - hate being nickeled and dimmed over little things like that.

Did Not Meet My Expectation

1. Was kept waiting upon arrival for check-in. Witnessed 3 counter staff at the reception servicing one check-out guest who had problem with room charge; but no one saw us waiting behind this check-out guest for services!
2. The receptionist did the check-in for us said that we could get room upgrade as there was room available. However, the room given to us for the 2 night stay was not upgraded at all, And with NO VIEW!
3. The receptionist also could not locate our booking which was booked through Perfect Escapes and included complimentary breakfast; free upgrade room type; etc. We had to chase her to check with the reservations for the details offered by Perfect Escapes.

I arrived late from a long day of work. The multiples scents of burning candles and peaceful lobby immediately relaxed me. I was welcomed with a flute of champagne and got checked in quickly. I was able to look at my emails from my room easily and decided to drive the neighborhood for a late dinner. When I came back and to my surprise, a soft beach sounds like water welcomed me back in my room and my bed was ready. I wish I had more time to enjoy my stay and try the pool!
