We had several problems with service during our stay. Room not ready at check in, slow response to requests, broken equipment in the room, failed to provide housekeeping, etc., etc. We will not return. Too many other choices in Portland. -Carol, from Ketchikan, United States - 10/2/2009
Great Find

For all of you tired of the same chain hotel try Hotel Monaco. Front desk was friendly, our suite was great for my husband and I plus our teenage daughter - there was a room divider to give each of us privacy. Beyond that there is a neat art decor theme, large lounge continues theme, this location has bikes to ride, clean throughout, comfy beds, etc. Attached restaurant has very good food. All was wonderful. Also had cute sign in lobby welcoming by name the pets that were staying the night. -Liz Krummell , from Long Beach, United States - 9/8/2009
I Would Definitely Stay Here Again!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I can't recommend this hotel enough! The staff was friendly & helpful. The room & bathroom were spacious & clean with higher-end furnishings. They have a complimentary happy hour with local wines, beer, & snacks. The restaurant next door (Red Star) is excellent. And, the hotel is in a great location, is environmentally-sensitive, and allows pets. What more can you ask for? -Laura, from Alexandria, United States - 8/17/2009

A Good Place to Stay in Portland
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Hotel Monaco is conveniently located, with a friendly staff and every evening there is a complimentary happy hour with a selection of local wines and appetizers. The one negative is their outrageous price for overnight parking that is more suited to New York than Portland, Oregon; use the public garage on the next block for significant savings (your car will wind up there anyhow if they run out of space in their garage). -David Safran , from McLean, United States - 5/28/2009
The Staff Went Out of Their Way to Make My Birthda
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful, and sent up a tray with birthday surprises: a bottle of wine, fruit, chocolate and a yoga DVD! We sat in front of the fire in the beautiful and elegant lobby and enjoyed complimentary wine and cocktails (provided for all the guests each day at 5:00p.m.). The hotel was in a great location--close to shopping, restaurants, theaters, etc. Our room had many amenities, such as: an honor bar, plush robes, workout clothes (for the gym on the top floor), movies on demand and a large bathroom. All in all, I felt very pampered on my birthday. -Jo Ann Taylor, from Corvallis , United States - 5/18/2009

Friendly Staff
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Our stay was very nice. To start with the good, the room was nicely appointed and decorated. The hotel is very pretty and the location is great. We walked almost everywhere and parked in the garage around the corner for about $8.50 a day- big savings from the valet. It was great that the hotel was so dog-friendly too. I was disappointed that the room was so small. We brought our lab with us and it took some creative thinking to get us the dog and the luggage in the room where you could still manage to walk from the bedroom to the bath w/o tripping. Other down sides:surprised that the towels and TP were industrial-grade at this price level. Also, our bathroom fan did not work so we had to keep the door open while showering to keep from steaming up the room. The worst was that the bed was very uncomfortable to me and after walking so far each day, was tough. The linens were soft but the bed was not. Next trip, I will be looking for a hotel with better beds for a more refreshing wake-up. -Candice, from Poulsbo, United States - 4/3/2009
Great Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I stayed in the king suite. Everything was high quality although it was definitely on the artsy and unusual side! The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was nice the bed very comfortable, good size bathroom. 24-hour fitness room. Nice Aveda spa. Wonderful restaurant with 24-hour room service...gourmet, high quality menu. Lots of charm and character to the hotel. And the price is unbeatable. I will stay there again on my next visit to Portland. -Tori Schultz , from las vegas, United States - 3/9/2009

Check in and out was a breeze. The hotel is clean and has great amenities. The only thing it lacks is a pool, but free happy hour makes up for it! -Liz, from Sunnyvale, United States - 2/5/2008
Hotel Monaco Portland

The hotel was very nice. There were lots of available extras; snacks, umbrellas, slippers etc. (for a charge). Valet Parking was more than my car rental, so we were able to park on the streets without too much trouble. The safe was nice, but very difficult to get to. The hotel was very willing to ship me my items when I forgot to take them home, but they did wait for me to contact them, instead of contacting me. We did not participate in the morning coffee or evening wine tasting. Nor did I go to the tiny business center or the exercise room. The drop off zone was very small to load and unload. Overall it was a very nice stay. -John Evans , from Yuba City, United States - 1/29/2008
A Perfect End to Our Journey
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We planned a leisurely drive up the Pacific Coast Highway from San Diego to Portland, making only 2 lodging reservations, at the start and at the end. In between we would stay where the road led us...
We flew into a chaotic San Diego the night of the tragic fires very thankful that we had a reserved room, and grateful that we could start our drive the next morning (before they closed the highways!)
The road trip north was filled with rugged coastal views, serene redwood forests, beautiful rolling hills covered with vineyards, and a variety of lodging adventures!
Arriving at Hotel Monaco was a much-anticipated end to our journey and far exceeded our expectations. We were welcomed as family, spent 3 wonderful days exploring Portland and 2 glorious nights in the most luxurious bed we had ever experienced.
We will definitely stay again if we visit Portland, and will look for your hotels in our future travels.
