We Liked It

We loved it! Everything was truly wonderful. Except...the bed was soft and squashed down in the middle, and the mattress higher at the top of the bed, so my neck was cricked after sleeping on it which gave me a headache the next day. Mattresses need to be changed out/ rotated more frequently. -Ellen, from Portola Valley, United States - 10/26/2009
Excellent Breakfasts and Service
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My husband and I stayed at a superior room for 8 nights.
We checked in before time thanks to our reservation, which is really excellent after such a long trip from Europe (Spain). Good room size, television and excellent pillows and mattress. Having separate shower and bath is also a plus.
Perfect room service. They cleaned twice per day. Booking through Perfect Escapes gives the extra of breakfast included, which was absolutely gorgeous. Room and restaurant staff really good and friendly. Inconveniences: for a hotel of this category they should have coffee machine and kettle in the room. After a long day walking around the city it'd be nice to be able to have something warm at the room. We asked at reception but they said they were not able to provide even one. Reception staff not so helpful in general. The hotel is very neat and clean but the decoration at the lobby is a bit dark and old-fashioned. -Ana Sanchez Garcia , from ZARAGOZA, Spain - 10/22/2009

Stayed at the Sofitel for a long weekend of sight seeing and fun. Location couldn't have been better, close to Central Park, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center, Shopping. Rooms were a good size, bed was very comfortable, bathrooms had L'Occitane products, plenty of towels. Turn down service. Bar was nice after a long day of walking around. Never crowded. Restaurant was very good, had breakfast every morning and was included in the price of room. Good service and very friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again. -Carrie Mander , from Naperville, United States - 10/7/2009
Central Location and Super Comfy Beds!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights at the end of Sept 09. The booking via Perfect Escapes meant my room was ready when we arrived early, which was a welcome relief so we could freshen up before hitting the city to explore! The location of the hotel is a couple of blocks away from Times Sq, so ideal for exploring the city. Again, with the Perfect Escapes booking we got free breakfast so indulged ourselves twice with a scrumptious breakfast from the hotel, which otherwise would have been quite pricey.
Room wise, we didn't appear to receive an upgrade (although got a late checkout) and were based on the 12th floor. There weren't any views to speak of from this floor, but the room was comfortable and spacious. The beds are amazing, having stayed in a Sofitel before in Chicago, this was one of the primary reasons for selecting this hotel in NY! After a long day of sightseeing in NY the bed was welcoming and cozy. I'm tempted to splash out and buy the SoBed range, it's that good!! -Rhiannon, from Aylesbury, England - 10/7/2009

All the reviews I read said this hotel was wonderful and it was! Everyone was lovely, room was big and had a view of Empire state building. The bathroom was great! Bed super comfortable. The breakfast that was included was excellent, our room upgrade was honored and we had late checkout. The location is perfect. A small cake was sent up for my birthday! I'd stay here again anytime I am in NYC. Loved it! Not one complaint!! -Lisa, from Rhinebeck, United States - 10/5/2009
Best NY Surprise!

Went in with low expectations. I go to the city once per year and location and comfort are key. I will definitely stay here again. The room was spacious, service outstanding & location perfect!!! Far exceeded my expectations. -Adele, from Fort Lauderdale, United States - 9/24/2009
Value for Money
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This hotel may appear expensive, but at New York prices it is a steal. The free breakfasts alone are normally $35 pp. We got the free breakfast and the late checkout but the upgrade was not available until day 2 (advertised as if available, so we can't complain). As we were on a 3 day trip and the standard room was excellent we just didn't bother moving. A very French theme to the hotel. Summary excellent location, food and staff. Overall 9.5/10. Only because nobody gets a 10. -Gary Anderson , from Ballyclare, Northern Ireland - 9/24/2009

Very Pleasant Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Upon our check-in, we had two issues (not due to the hotel) which were quickly resolved by the very charming gentlemen behind the registration desk. Everyone at the hotel was very pleasant and always asking if we were enjoying our stay and if they could do anything for us. The room was large for NYC standards and the bed extremely comfortable. The bathroom's main mirror was lit around all four sides, giving you a wonderful canvas to get ready by. There is an unlit magnifying mirror on the wall. Location of the hotel was a big plus. We were withing two to three blocks of Times Square, Theater District, Diamond District, Grand Central Station. Would definitely recommend this hotel. -William Pepicello , from Scottsdale, United States - 9/11/2009
Wonderful Rooms/Service
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I expected the hotel to be nice based on what I read from other reviews, however, it truly did exceed my expectations. The rooms are very well appointed. The soaps and even loofah for the shower were a notch above even some of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. Definitely try to get a package that includes breakfast. It was delicious, gourmet, amazing! What a great way to start each day! You order off the menu in "Gaby's" the hotel's French restaurant and everything is made fresh and tastes better than any breakfasts I've ever had and I'M PICKY! The French aspect of the hotel is also very appealing. Concierge is top notch and extremely pleasant, NOT SNOOTY. Bon jour is the standard greeting, which was so nice to hear. Every single staff member greeted us and held doors for us and made sure we were always taken care of. I am a very "critical" traveler and want the best, but usually don't get it. In this case I believe I did! Hotel is a couple blocks away from Times Square. -Jodi, from Trinity, United States - 9/10/2009

Theater Getaway

Hotel is quite comfortable and well located for easy access to NYC theaters. They however need to be prodded for all Perfect Escape amenities -- a little disappointing. -Dennis Severance , from Ann Arbor, United States - 8/31/2009
Beauty, but Needs to Work on Noise, Service, Clean
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Street noise is negligible, much better than the Royalton across the street. There should be added to the doors a closer that softens the slamming/clicking sound of the door that wakes you. Perhaps starting with one floor for those requesting a quiet room and if it is successful, then throughout the hotel. If you can block out the street, but not the hallway noise from doors, how much did you really accomplish? Lobby and registration areas are filled with beautiful flowers and it is a nice place to chill out in front of the 20 vase display.
Bathroom below restaurant needs a lot more maintenance and deep cleaning (behind the faucet shouldn't be green). For $20 a Purell dispenser could be added to restaurant, esp. since bathroom is down a level. Beds could be more comfortable and don't seem to be a standard queen size. European perhaps?
Water & slippers should be labeled as complimentary. Not sure if that was "amenity gift". Forgotten chocolates at turndown were missed.

My wife and I visited New York for the weekend. My main concern was the hotel. Sofitel hotel New York surprised us. It was perfect for us. I am already planning another trip to New York in November. And I will be staying at Sofitel. Love this hotel. -Inyang, from Miami, United States - 8/24/2009
Nice Place With Many Drawbacks
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Nice room with music on that I thought was playing on our MP3 with what I just asked my husband to download, but it was the radio they set. Very cool. Nice slippers. Down bedding allergy honored. However, dinner reservation was @ a tiny table that caused staff to drop plate & candle 2x when staff sped walking by = nerve-racking instead of relaxing. Bathroom not clean - green mold behind faucets, toilets not flushed, paper on floor, 1/2 sinks w/o soap. Breakfast is incl, but had to argue for room service when 20min before breakfast ends I was refused seating due to large party. Doorman took from my husband, leaving me with a heavy bag on my back and a large suitcase. Then checked suitcases only until I asked for him to please take the bag on my back too. He didn't explain where to go check in so we were wandering a bit & felt lost. Bags were never brought to room we had to pick them up. Housekeeping "didn't see" privacy sign. "Queen bed" tiny & hard. Street noise & light fine but doors -Leon Laspina , from Lindenhurst, United States - 8/17/2009

Very Nice Hotel
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Room is nicely proportioned and bathroom was equipped with a tub and shower. The concierge was very helpful as was the staff. Rooms were cleaned early in the day. My room rate included breakfast each day. The restaurant was very nice, as was the food. However, the wait staff was somewhat indifferent, perhaps because they had less interest in serving a single female traveler. -Eve, from Cincinnati, United States - 8/10/2009

Exceptional Hotel

The Sofitel exceeded my expectations. The moment I walked in the hotel, I knew I had made the right choice. The front desk staff was very friendly. Getting the room through Perfect Escapes made it possible for us to check in early, get an upgraded room, and breakfast was included. The location of the hotel to Times Square was also a plus. I was always happy to wind down as we walked to the quiet location of the Sofitel after being with all of the happenings of Times Square. You can't go wrong with selecting the Sofitel or Perfect Escapes. -Tammie, from Mansfield , United States - 7/29/2009
Wonderful Stay

my son and I were in New York for the Paul McCartney concert and we thoroughly enjoyed the Sofitel hotel. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning and the food and presentation were great with a friendly wait-staff. Upon checking in, the desk clerk actually walked us to the restaurant and the elevator. That was a first. We asked for a great view and we were not disappointed. We had a wonderful view of the empire state and Chrysler buildings. When I return to New York, I plan to stay at the Sofitel. Thanks for a great stay. -Green Deschamps , from bishopville, United States - 7/23/2009

Stayed seven nights. Very friendly and professional service from all staff members. Well designed and appointed rooms. I appreciated the candle and matches in the bathroom, the discreet and pleasant chimes they use to alert bellmen, separate tub and shower, L'Occitane toiletries, water and chocolates delivered to room. Room service was quick and delicious. Restaurant service and food also excellent. Great location close to shopping and theatre, museums, and Grand Central Station and excellent restaurants. Would definitely return. -Janet Wright , from Dallas, United States - 6/25/2009

Nice Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The room and the amenities in the room were great. There was one day that the room was not cleaned until we called late in the afternoon, apparently because of a shortage on staff and a great number of new check-ins.
The hotel restaurant was wonderful for breakfast and the waiters were extremely nice. Fresh filtered coffee and bread baskets come with each meal. We also enjoyed the bar for snacks after a long day out in the city.
The front desk staff could be a bit friendlier. The concierge staff was terrific, going out of their way to make restaurant recommendations for various food types. -Eve, from cincinnati, United States - 4/17/2009

The Bed Was Great!!!

The best things of this hotel were the location and the service, however the bed deserves a special comment. The concierge extremely helpful. -Gladys Maestre , from Parlin, United States - 6/19/2008
