Overview
Built on an entire city block in the style of a Roman palazzo complete with marble columns and facial, the 1839 tariff building has been meticulously restored in every detail. The interior features and warm urban chic décor are unparalleled in Washington. The restaurant spills out into the open-air interior courtyard. Most rooms feature 15-20 foot vaulted ceilings and unique period architectural details with inviting warm contemporary furnishings. All rooms feature Sony mini stereos w/CD players/cordless phones/complimentary high speed Internet access/24 hr room service/deluxe robes. The hotel is conveniently located directly across from the Verizon Center and a metro subway stop. Many federal offices/museums/monuments/restaurants/and upscale shopping are within walking distance.

Great Stay At a Fantastic Price

Great value at a hotel that is right in the center of Washington DC. I expected to pay at least double for the location. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Another bonus is that the hotel is dog friendly. I will certainly stay at the Hotel Monaco in the future.

Pleasant but Eventful Stay

We were given a lower floor, below lobby room which I rejected but couldn't be moved until the second day. The first night hotel staff entered our room by mistake at 11 pm and I was terrified by the door opening. The staff rectified this by giving us a free night, re-keying the room, and providing complimentary breakfast coupons. The staff were very friendly especially the concierge, Kimberle. We received complimentary wine and sparkling wine for our anniversary. The lobby reception with wine and appetizers was a nice touch after a busy day touring the city. Would stay there again as it is a great location for walking and Metro.

The first room was smoke filled, though the hotel is a non-smoking facility. The assistant manager was most gracious in correcting this.

The hotel is in a great location, a few blocks from the Washington Mall. The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff were courteous and helpful, and there are a couple of nearby restaurants that are a better buy than the hotel's own.

It was the perfect place to stay for one night only after a concert at Verizon Center. Longer than that, too pricey. Honor bar in room and no vending machines. Honor bar was expensive. No where to park unless you know DC. Valet parking for a full day was $34. Hotel was nice enough to waive the parking because we had dirty towels and dirt on a pillowcase. No fan or window in bathroom after taking a shower...very little water pressure in shower. Too expensive overall for more than one day.
