Perfect Escape to the Taj!
-Carol Wilcox , from Duxbury, United States - 7/8/2009
Not Up to Expectations
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Taj failed to live up to our expectations. Upon arriving the toilet was clogged. Someone was sent up to clean it and the snake did the job but as he walked out of the room the snake was dripping dirty water onto the floor of our room. Also, the beds have no top sheet! I have never stayed in any hotel that didn't put a top sheet on the bed. At least you know those are washed daily. Who knows who was sleeping in the bed before us using the same comforter? The pillows were also thin and cheap. Great location but I wouldn't recommend it or return. -Steven Bell , from Newburyport, United States - 6/27/2009
Taj: A Very Good Experience
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Strong Points: Location - Excellent proximity to Boston, major areas for business or touring;
Room was nice size and the floor to ceiling windows provided excellent view of park; Pleasing room setting. Comfort - very comfortable bed and coverings; Most of staff services.
Issue related to my stay: Had to have room key cards replaced twice; Requested additional pillows which never came; Too many notices in and about the room concerning extra amenity charges--locating these services should be in one place (maybe in a pamphlet or binder.
Recommendation: I will definitely make this my place to stay in Boston. -Delano Anderson , from YONKERS, United States - 6/18/2009

The Taj is a wonderful hotel, welcoming and attentive to the smallest details. The amenities are first rate and the presentation is impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would gladly return. -Rita Sosa , from Miami, United States - 6/4/2009
A Nice Stay
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I stayed here when it was the Ritz. The hotel looked the same and the bellmen were very helpful. It did seem that none of the employees were happy. They were helpful, but did not have a smile on their faces. We thought wireless was included in the room. They were kind of rude telling us they would look into it. They did not follow up with us...we had to ask. A five star hotel should contact you with an answer. Also, if our confirmation states wireless as an amenity, it should be included at a 5 star hotel or should be comped if tested. This put a bad tinge on the room. Also, the upgrade was for an interior junior suite. We had a deluxe park view room. Even though the hotel was not busy, they would not upgrade us to a nicer room with a park view. Basically, staff was not friendly (except for some bellmen). It was not the service of a Ritz or a Four Seasons at all. The maid service was excellent and the rooms were appointed nicely. -Elizabeth Mitsky , from San Francisco, United States - 6/2/2009

Luxurious Get-Away
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
My adult daughter and I went to this hotel for a luxurious overnight getaway. We were not disappointed. The check-in service was very pleasant and helpful. I asked for a change from one king to two beds and was given that without a problem We were upgraded to a room with a view of the Public Gardens. The beds were very comfortable and the decor was bright and cheerful. When we went to go to church the doorman called a town car to take us which was part of the amenities of the hotel. We were able to check in early and stay later as part of the Perfect Escapes package.
The restaurant had good food but it was very expensive. We ate lunch there but just could not eat breakfast in a place where oatmeal was $12.00 and if you wanted bananas it became $17.00
The only disappointment of the trip was our experience at afternoon tea. We have had tea here several times when the hotel was the Ritz and it was lovely. This time the sandwiches were on the dry side and the service was terrible. -Carolyn, from bellingham, United States - 2/21/2009
Perfect Old Boston Experience
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We were greeted warmly by the doorman, with an umbrella because it was snowing, and our car was quickly taken by the valet. Check in was quick and courteous. Lobby is small and elegant and traditional. Mahogany and marble elevators took us to our huge, beautifully appointed room. King size 4-poster bed. Antique furniture, heavy silk drapery, desk, great sitting area, and a view over Comm. Ave. Huge marble bathroom. Robes, slippers, and M&B toiletries. It was my birthday weekend and they sent up champagne and a wonderful chocolate mousse for me! At turn down, there were rose petals all over our bed with chocolates! We felt so pampered. The staff was amazing. The room was so quiet, we never heard another guest. The only downside, I am so sorry to say, was the room service food. We had breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 dinner. Again, the service was fast, staff great, but the food was disappointing. They did remedy a couple of the things we brought up, but there really was an all over quality and coo -Lauren, from humarock, United States - 1/23/2009

I was in Boston for a business meeting. The staff at the Taj made the stay seamless, even providing a Blackberry charger (which I had left at home). I would highly recommend it for business or a weekend getaway. -Michele, from Bedminster, United States - 10/16/2008
Taj Boston Needs Revamped -- Tired Chic
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I stayed at this property for many years when it was the Ritz-Carlton. Everything appears the same and since the Ritz was selling they obviously stopped putting in money towards decor etc. The result is a very 'tired chic' current state. I was informed they did have plans to renovate and it won't be too soon. Finally, I did speak with the management and was assured on the next visit that would be corrected. The hallways in the original section of the hotel did not have air conditioning working and it was very hot - consequently it was unpleasant until you got to your room. They tried but they have a long way to go to meet the standards of the old Ritz-Carlton. It's a perfect location and that makes up for several shortcomings. The staff did try to be professional and pleasant. However, I was embarrassed to have friends drop by for a visit. -James Cunningham , from Columbus, United States - 6/16/2008

Missing "My Pleasure"...
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Front desk lacked the "my pleasure" service we have received in past visits to the hotel. Staff seemed anxious to hand us our electronic keys (which needed to be re-programed) and get on with their personal conversation. Our encounters with other staff was WONDERFUL -
friendly and courteous. -Carol, from Duxbury, United States - 2/26/2008

We had a great overnight in the city! The hotel and service were perfect. We were able to take advantage of the Perfect Escapes room upgrade and had a beautiful room with a king-size four-poster bed overlooking the Boston Common. The hotel is elegant with an old-world charm. -Emily, from Medfield, United States - 2/1/2008
Treated Like Royalty
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
This was my first visit to the Taj Boston and it was only for a one night stay on business. However, the experience stuck! From the moment of check-in the staff was unflinchingly attentive. Room was large and overlooking Boston Common.
In fact, if I could find one fault, it was that they may have been overly attentive and too eager to please.

The Taj was a great choice for a quick business trip. It is located on one of my favorite spots of Boston, Newbury Street and Boston Common. I am looking forward to coming again for leisure. Wonderful Getaway
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I surprised my wife for a two-night overnight at the Taj Boston (the old Ritz Carlton in Boston).
Check-in was painless, with promised room upgrade and late checkout. Room was very nice (bath was on the smallish size). 24 Hour room service, honor bar, very comfortable bed and reading chair. Very clean room and hotel. Lot's of help wanting to carry your bag, answer your questions, etc. Complimentary newspapers daily. Taj lounge (bar) a bit on the expensive side.
No complaints. For the $144 per night fee (plus taxes) in downtown Boston, a real bargain. -Bruce, from Needham, United States - 1/23/2008
