Nice Hotel but Forget the Bar - Above Allen
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The room was beautiful and had a stunning view of the NYC skyline. We loved the shower with the rain faucet and the industrial vibe in the bathroom. We went to the bar to have a late night drink and the wine was bad - rancid. Tasted and smelled like it had been opened for weeks. We could tell the bartender knew this and served it to us anyway by the way he behaved when we brought it to his attention. It was a slow night and the bar staff had more interest in standing around talking to each other than their customers' needs. I expected so much more from a hotel of this caliber. They could take some customer service lessons from the lobby staff, especially the awesome guys that helped us with our luggage. -K, from Fairport , United States - 12/2/2009
Very Cool Hotel on Lower East Side

My wife and I enjoyed four nights here over the Columbus Day weekend. The service was attentive without being stifling. We had a king studio suite that was both spacious and functional. We had a wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant (Shang) and enjoyed all of the boutiques and unique neighborhood attributes of the Lower East Side. Getting uptown was easy, by taxi or subway (located directly across the street). One of the benefits of staying at the hotel is access to Above Allen, the hotel's semi-private club. Following our first day of travel, it was great to be able to have dinner and nightlife only a few floors from our room. -Mark Moses , from Pleasanton, United States - 10/26/2009
Fabulous Hotel

Very modern chic hotel with large comfortable rooms, staffed entirely with young, friendly staff. The nearest subway is just across the road and there's a decent cafe on the corner. If you felt like eating in there is
the best food supermarket I have ever been in, nothing like it here in the UK. All fresh fruit/veg/salads also self service ready made meals, hot and cold. Only hiccup was a night manager who was inexperienced in dealing with a problem we encountered on our first night. -Rose Walsh , from Glasgow, Scotland - 9/24/2009
Great Hotel and Cheap...

For the price I paid, I expected a lot less, but this place is really luxurious for its price. -Chris Clary , from Bloomfield , United States - 9/2/2009

We were here for our honeymoon in June 09 and had a fantastic time, we stayed in a Studio king, which we got a great deal for on Perfect Escapes. The room was very large and with a separate seating area. There is s 42 inch TV and a really comfortable bed. The iPod speaker alarm clock is a nice touch.
Although we did not eat in the hotel, we did go to the bar on the 7th floor "Above Allen" which is a beautiful place to chill out with a cocktail, the views are amazing and enjoyed some 80´s tunes from the DJ which took me back a bit. The area is perfect, you have all you need in terms of restaurants and bars, check out Inoteca's wine list, and is away from the stressful midtown lights...Overall had a great time and will certainly return.

Good hotel, subway across the street. Some front desk people need to be friendlier. Great rooms. Great restaurant! -Daniel Salomon , from HUIXQUILUCAN, Mexico - 6/15/2009
Perfect Location but a Bit Noisy
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Next to SoHo, Little Italy, Greenwich and Lower this is a perfect spot. Also to/from Midtown and Central Park/Guggenheim is easy with the close-by metro. The traffic is intense however. Even during the night. The staff is superb. The Wifi is too expensive compared to European average rates. Great bed and shower. Strange noisy heating. But, next time we will try the next level up of Thompson Hotel! -Fred Kloet , from Arnhem, Netherlands - 2/9/2009

Definitely Would Go Back

This certainly meets the Thompson standards. The hotel is still a bit under construction -- so theey are in a "soft" opening phase. But the room was great. The sheets are really nice, bathroom well outfitted.
This is right across the street from the NY Subway F and V lines so it is very easy to get up or downtown for business.
The neighborhood is changing -- certainly not SoHo but probably what SoHo was 20 years ago. But plenty of good places to eat and drink.
Definitely would go back. But their rates could go through the roof when they finish construction. We will see. -John Struck , from coral gables, United States - 10/7/2008

After making a reservation a month prior, I was informed that there was no room available for me when I arrived. I was told a reservation had been made for me at another location. After arriving at this location, I was told there was no room available at this hotel either. It wasn't until I arrived at the third hotel that I finally received a room. -Meredith Hopken, from Morristown, United States - 9/29/2008
