Overview
Smyth, a Thompson Hotel, is located in the quiet, cobblestoned area of Tribeca in Manhattan. The hotel has 100 rooms lavishly decorated in a modern, luxurious feel and has a wonderful restaurant (coming soon) with a French Riviera-inspired cuisine, as well as two bars. Smyth is yet another successful upscale boutique hotel by the same group who brought you 60 Thompson and the Hollywood Roosevelt, bringing the same luxury yet hip environment which can be expected from a Thompson Hotel. All rooms feature bathroom amenities by Kiehls, mini bars with gourmet Dean and DeLuca snacks, drinks and Kiki de Montparnasse accessories. Entertainment options include a flat screen TV, movie library, and an iPod docking station.

Upscale, Hip Hotel, Charges for Wifi
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
I enjoyed a 3 night stay at this hotel and thought the staff was helpful, the room was wonderful and enjoyed the amenities and then was dumbfounded to discover they charge for Wifi. This was a pricey hotel and for the image they are trying to project I think charging for Wifi is a joke!!! The location was great and had great accessibility to the subway. Being on W. Broadway resulted in a fair amount of street noise. New Yorkers love their car horns!! -Laura Woo , from Oakland, United States - 10/29/2009
Not a Great NY Hotel Experience but OK
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The hotel was comfortable and our room was nice and large for NY (King Deluxe). Despite being on only the 3rd floor it was not noisy. The worst thing was that the bathroom smelled bad and seemed to need better cleaning of the vanity sink. For a new hotel it was not acceptable. The service staff - especially the front door people seemed to have been chosen more for their looks than their ability to be of good service. That was disappointing. Over the 4 days we stayed there we saw several people struggling to get in the doors with heavy bags and no door people around, and when they were on duty they were just hanging out and chatting. The cleaning staff for some reason felt they needed to knock at the door several times a day to ask if we wanted the room cleaned. I have no idea why there was not a "Privacy" or "Please service room" door tag available. It would have helped. -Manu, from Auckland, New Zealand - 10/27/2009
Excellent Service, Value and Position
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We stayed for 7 nights. Excellent. Having the subway so close was invaluable. Staff were always friendly. We got a great rate through Perfect Escapes. Bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom was big. After Smyth we moved to the Bowery Hotel for 4 nights, and although significantly more expensive, I have to say that Smyth beat it hands down. Will definitely reccommend. -Eleanor Delmercato, from Elwood, Australia - 10/21/2009
Perfect Beds and Location
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We had a wonderful stay at this little and quiet hotel. Do not expect a party place because it is a Thompson hotel in Tribeca. This hotel is quiet, sexy and the bed is just the best ever. The rooms are pretty big and the bathroom is beautiful. We will definitely go back and recommend it to friends if the price stays reasonable.

Wonderful stay. Great room with excellent layout and interior design. Comfortable bed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed the SOHO location with close by restaurants, shopping and businesses. -Christian Neumeyr , from Newport Coast, United States - 10/15/2009
I Loved This Hotel!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
A perfect boutique without the scene. Great neighborhood – right next to a subway stop, so easy to get uptown in a hurry. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the concierge who got us great theater tickets. They gave us exactly the kind of room we wanted, even though we came in late. The soundproofing is excellent; inside the room the city seemed remote. The room finishes are fabulous, especially the stone and vanity in the bathroom. The beds as comfy as can be. Big flat screen TV, lots of channels. The bar served terrific drinks - don't pass on the Moscow Mule with fresh crushed ginger root. The price was an excellent value. Take advantage now before they open the restaurant and the prices double. We would be back in a heartbeat. If I had one criticism, it's that the sliding bathroom door needed to be rehung for better privacy. -Ellie Wilder , from Sausalito, United States - 9/25/2009
Mod, Nice Size Room, and Excellent Staff

Very mod and hip, good size room with nice king size bed and pull out couch for our son, super friendly staff, loved the Kiehl's amenities...would definitely stay there again if the price is as good. -Margaret Arnold , from Washington , United States - 9/24/2009

Great Location and Staff!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Excellent location for access to subway. Friendly, elegant lobby bar. Very attentive and helpful staff. Rooms are small (perfect for one, cramped for a couple). Only criticism was the climate control in the room did not work, so it was always freezing. -Sally Carlson , from San Francisco, United States - 9/21/2009

Horrified
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We arrived to find they have given our room away and moved us to a different hotel - only comps were cab fare and free night at other hotel. Put us in handicapped room where shower floods entire floor. no business center, no phone coverage at hotel for AT&T. -Brenda Chaparro , from Los Gatos, United States - 9/8/2009

The staff was excellent, knowledgeable, very helpful and efficient. The accommodations are very stylish and make good use of small space. I particularly like d the eucalyptus scent in our room.
I was disappointed that an upgrade wasn't available. -Vivian, from Covington, United States - 8/28/2009
Brand New and a Great Value in NY

Next to the subway line, great bar, staff are young and very friendly. Service was perfect!! Room was perfect!! Light and bright not a dark place like most NY hotels. -Ned & Sally Nielsen, from Hilton Head Island, United States - 8/27/2009
Smyth
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The room was spacious and comfortable and the employees were extremely helpful, considerate and cheerful. My only complaint is that our room on the 4th floor overlooked Broadway and the noise level was pretty loud. Otherwise, great location and a bargain at the rate we got. -Cesar Alvarez , from Los angeles, United States - 8/26/2009

Happy --- But?
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Very nice, clean, but I found a toothpick on the floor when I closed curtains. Shower without door made it challenging to not get water on bathroom floor. One sink made it a little inconvenient with 2 people trying to get ready at the same time. Couldn't find a mirror in bedroom but was told at desk that there should have had one on inside of closet door. If there was one there I didn't see it & there was no plug near it for me to use a dryer & see in the mirror at the same time. My daughter lives across the West Side highway which wasn't a bad walk. We visit often but usually stay at Embassy Suites. We would consider Smyth again if the price was right. -Patricia Brucato , from middlebury, United States - 8/12/2009
Hip, Modern & Excellent Customer Service!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We just got back from a 3-day business/pleasure getaway. Great deal...awesome stay!! Every staff member was incredibly friendly. Chic rooms. We had a King Superior (upgraded through Perfect Escapes), room was spacious (for NYC) and brand new. Flat screen TV was super with HD service!! Loved the bathroom/walk-in shower with translucent wall (to the room). But if you are not traveling with a spouse/partner, you would positively need a different room setup. Parents and older children/teens could not share a room and have privacy. The sliding door leaves a generous crack that looks into the toilet area and through the translucent shower wall from the room, you can definitely see shapes. The 1,2,3 and A,C,E are right there and other subway lines are a ten minute walk. -Kim Mowbray , from Woonsocket, United States - 8/12/2009
Fantastic Stay At Smyth Tribeca

While staying in NYC I try to stick with Thompson hotels, this hotel by far is my favorite. Comfy bed, floor to ceiling windows, great location. An all around wonderful experience, I will be returning at the end of the month. -Christina Bush , from Albany, United States - 8/6/2009
Excellent Hotel + Staff + Location
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The room was huge, and except for the view, which was none, was perfect! The staff was wonderfully nice. Eva and Will at the concierge desk made our stay perfect, and helped us out with a lot of tips. The decoration is really nice, and the place is really hip and trendy!!
Location is perfect for who doesn't want to be with the crowd at Midtown, and yet it is conveniently right in front of Chambers Subway station. -Fabio, from Sao Paulo, Brazil - 7/30/2009

First Experience With Smyth Tribeca
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
It was great that I made the choice to stay there for 4 nights on my business trip to NYC. Room was well kept, clean & comfortable. A walking distance to Little Italy & China town. But, it was just a little too far to reach midtown where my business meetings were. Overall, it is a great place to stay. -Charles Hon , from Newcastle, United States - 7/14/2009

Great Hotel...Food Not So Good
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Room, bathroom, lobby, doormen, concierge: very good, friendly and helpful. Location is great. Room service: food quality poor, plenty of restaurants around so this wasn't a problem. Also ordered breakfast in the lobby. Ambiance was good, quality of food only fair, poor for the price.
It rained almost every day I was there and umbrellas were made available by the hotel. Overall a good experience. -Christie Anderson , from Ketchum, United States - 7/1/2009
Try Tribeca!
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The Smyth (pronounced 'Smith') was a very, very pleasant place to stay in Tribeca. Everything you need, or would want to do is within walking distance: great shopping, extraordinary restaurants, interesting "watering holes", Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, Hudson River Park, etc. The hotel was perfect (except that the restaurant was not yet open). Very friendly, personable & helpful staff; modern, clean, very nicely-appointed room. Great for a business trip, as well as for pleasure. Highly recommended. -Charles Haley , from Matthews, United States - 6/26/2009

I usually stay at the W hotels when I go to NYC. I decided to try somewhere new this time around but still wanted to stay with the boutique style. This hotel is fantastic!! Exceptionally clean, amazing customer service and I especially liked the bathroom. Very modern, plenty of room and I really liked the little vase of fresh flowers beside the bed and the cookies and chocolates!!
I will definitely be staying here again.

This perfect boutique hotel is in easy walking distance of the gorgeous Hudson River promenade. The room was lovely and the bathroom brilliant. The bar cafe in the lobby provided excellent cappuccino with an array of secluded leather booths. The bed and bedding was just right and all amenities were excellent. Ample restaurants surrounded the hotel site and getting cabs was easy. The staff was very polite and helpful. The room was quiet and everything completely functional. I would definitely recommend this as a top NYC value and location. -Diane, from Las Vegas, United States - 5/18/2009

Really liked this hotel. Large rooms by NYC standards. Modern yet sober design. Clean and quiet. Good location near two subway lines. Only minus - the $10 charge per day for Wifi. -Kristofer Magnusson , from Falun, Sweden - 5/9/2009
Nice Stay At The Smyth!

We booked through Perfect Escapes. We never received our room upgrade [on avail.], or late check out that was stated in the package because the front desk "didn't see it." During check out, Michael Ahn the Manager apologized for the oversight and took care of us for future stays. Overall the hotel is very hip, nice surroundings and very hip employees. Gym was Okay. Restaurant not open yet. Bar had cool vibe and neat tuck away places for gathering and schmoozing. -Joseph, from Kennett Square, United States - 5/7/2009
