Great Location

Very nice hotel. The rooms are small but not unusual for a New York hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Can't beat this hotel for the price. -Kathleen Cannon , from Robbinsville, United States - 7/11/2008
Not Too Bad......
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The hotel was clean and the staff was pleasant. There were a lot of kids staying at the hotel which caused the floor and lobby to be a little noisy. The "business" center was a joke, only two computers for which you had to pay for internet access.
Front office staff was very helpful however, the "desires" representative was rarely on-site. Unless you want to be apart of the Times Square or Broadway crowd, the location is not prime. -Dajoie Croslan , from Washington, United States - 7/9/2008
A Lot of Fuss Without a Lot of Reason!

Well, let me start by saying that the staff was very friendly for the most part. They weren't quite as helpful as they were friendly, but they were still on the above average mark for helpfulness. The building was OK. It was old (which was expected), and had tons of potential and character, but wasn't used well, the room was VERY small, even for NYC. I got a Jr. Suite for a special rate of like $400 a night for 2 nights. It was smaller than a normal room at most hotels, just that there was a hallway between the sleeping cubby and the computer cubby and the bathroom cubby was in the middle of the 2 in the hallway. The TV was very small, the menu was WAY overpriced, again, even for NYC, and it was just disappointing. Also I think I booked a special rate through Sweet Escapes that included breakfast and free upgrade, neither of which I got. Nothing bad happened but I was just disappointed greatly by the nothing good that didn't happen. -Shawn Morris , from atlanta, United States - 7/7/2008

This is a fabulous hotel in every way; location, attitude at the front desk, clean, comfortable bed, great bath amenities, did I say location?

Positive:
-Room was quiet (except when construction was going on outside).
-Staff was friendly and cooperative.
-Conveniently-located, workout room and business office.
-Air conditioning worked well even during record-breaking temperatures.
Negative:
-We had to tell housekeeping to give us a bath mat.
-Housekeeping put both of our toothbrushes in the same cup.
-No spa, pool, steam room, or sauna in the workout room.
-Claustrophobic elevators.
-Had to have somebody to deliver ice

Awesome Hotel

This is a great hotel in an amazing location. Although it is less than half a block from Times Square, it is really quiet at night. There are tons of restaurants in the immediate area (try Red Flame Diner for breakfast). Shopping on 5th Ave is just a couple of blocks away. We had a 4 p.m. check out which really made our trip. -Jennifer, from East Windsor, United States - 5/29/2008

No Sleep
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
Got put into a room with no closet and safe, and just virtually above the street, where construction starts at 1am, with dumpster coming at 3am. After a night with 2 hours sleep, requested for change to higher floor. However, after being told to pack our things and that bags would be moved, arrived back at hotel at 11pm to realize it was not done so. Finally, business centre comprises 2 PCs with chargeable internet access at $7.95 per 15 minutes. Felt value was not good, given we had stayed in a bigger hotel across the street for a lower price the week before, with much larger room and noise-free environment. The hotel is more hype than substance, no cafe or tea/coffee facilities either. Except for the slick marketing via sofa picture (which does not exist in the lobby), and their "Desires" program, which again, mainly comprised a welcome cranberry juice/pack of Oreos for us, it virtually does not exist. Great marketing which failed to deliver. -Poh Wah, from Singapore, Singapore - 5/17/2008

Can't Beat Location or Staff
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
We walked everywhere, from Broadway shows to museums to Central Park to Times Square to 5th Avenue shopping. Even though the rooms are small, we had 5-star service - especially from J.P. at the front desk and Tirone on the "desires" (concierge) desk. We always felt genuinely welcomed, and Tirone was amazing with reservations, arranging for a special champagne to be delivered, car service - you name it. And when the champagne arrived, he brought it himself with the right number of glasses and the ice bucket. You can't go wrong. So, yes, the rooms are small - but nicely appointed. And how much time do you want to spend in the room in NYC, anyway? (Comfy beds and pillows, though!) -Elizabeth, from Sacramento, United States - 3/28/2008

I enjoyed staying at the Hotel Mela. The service was very good. The front desk staff and bellman were particularly friendly. Enjoyed the restaurant next door (Saju).

Neat, Tidy, Practical

The Hotel Mela is an unique hotel. First of all, the location- very close to Times Square- is excellent. The practical room facility such as complimentary internet access and nice value of room details is another strength. The limit of space, such as no bathtub, is understandable due to the location. Generally, I love to stay at Hotel Mela.
The kind responsiveness of the staff adds good point.

Sound NYC hotel, well-decorated, warm and friendly. Only down-sides are limited public space and verrrry small bathrooms. -Carolee Mills , from Alexandria, United States - 1/28/2008
Semi-Precious Gem
 | | Overall rating: | | Value rating : | |
The room was nicely sized and very clean. Lobby facilities are meager by NYC standards. We didn't try the associated restaurant next door but the menu looked interesting. The staff seemed helpful, courteous and prompt. Not a hotel stay to write home about, but at the price and location a bargain in NYC. Would definitely stay again. -Charles, from Suffern, United States - 1/26/2008
