Overview
Mal life. It winks you know. That fabulous bridge on the Quayside. Every now and then just to let me know how fabulous I look. Check in this is where a night of fine wine and divine dining begins. Up on the first floor for bar Mal and a mojito, you can watch the world show at a window seat. Did you see that bridge wink again? Time to dine in a comfy booth with a Cloudy Bay. Up on the third there's a super slinky room awaiting, time for bed!

It Was Tough but Someone Had to Do It . . .

My partner and I were former residents of Newcastle and chose to stay at the Malmaison for the first time on a recent return for a weekend in the city. On previous visits we have stayed both at the Copthorne and Hilton. They're great hotels and provided great lodgings for our trip however I have to say the Malmaison is now our number 1 choice for future return visits. Highlights of our stay were: very dog-friendly (much appreciated by our Scottie!), great room (large, great decor and very well-maintained), good restaurant (not a hint of the mass-produced feel inherent in most hotel evening meals), excellent wine advice from the wine waiter, thoroughly relaxing bar and the best location in Newcastle. Only gripe was breakfast - the restaurant is quite small and so was very overcrowded at breakfast - learned our lesson and got there early on Sunday to avoid a wait.
Final thought? How long do we have to wait to save up the readies for a return visit??

Directions:
From the Airport:
On leaving airport take 2nd exit on roundabout signposted Newcastle A696. At roundabout stay in middle lane and take 3rd exit signposted city centre. Go straight over next 3 roundabouts stay in inside lane. At next roundabout bear left onto dual carriageway /signposted City Centre A167/ Take Quayside slip road and follow road around. At traffic lights take inside lane and bear left at the fork in the road take right turning. Follow road round onto traffic lights. Go through both sets Malmaison is 2nd building on the right.
From A1 /M/ North:
Take slip road A184 cross Redheugh Bridge take 1st left /signposted Telewest Arena/. At mini roundabout turn left. At lights go straight over /Centre for Life is on left/. Follow road towards Quayside pass Copthorne at next roundabout turn so that you go under the Tyne Bridge. Go straight through traffic lights then at 2nd set of lights turn right onto Sandgate. Malmaison is the 2nd building on the right

From A1 /M/ South:
At junction 65 on the A1 take slip road A184 and stay in outside lane. After 1 mile you will cross the Redheugh Bridge. Take 1st left then at mini roundabout turn left. Go straight over lights and follow road towards the Quayside. Pass Copthorne Hotel at 2nd roundabout turn so that you go under Tyne Bridge. 2nd set of lights turn right onto Sandgate Malmaison is 2nd building on right.
