Overview
The iconic L'Hotel has a long and distinguished pedigree, and is one of the most famous hotels in Paris.
Originally part of the palace of Queen Margot, the building which now L'Hotel was made into a Pavillion d'Amour, or a Pavillion of Love, in the early 19th Century.
Oscar Wilde took up residence at the end of the century, and lived at L'Hotel till the end of his life - though at the time, it was called Hotel Alsace. He was the first of many illustrious guests who stayed here.
By the 1960's, L'Hotel was the place to stay in Paris, with every famous visitor to the city passing through from Salvador Dali and Princess Grace, to Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. This was largely due to the inspirational ownership and style of Guy-Louis Duboucheron, a most charismatic and charming Parisian.
L'Hotel's heyday has continued unbroken ever since; a major refit at the end of the 1990's by the renowned designer Jacques Garcia marked a new chapter in the hotel's history, winning many awards and prizes. This saw the private pool and steam room installed in the caves, the creation of the courtyard in the restaurant, as well as a complete overhaul of all the bedrooms and public space.
Garcia oversaw a further remodeling of the hotel which was completed in the summer 2006, after L'Hotel became part of a Curious Group of Hotels, a small, privately owned company of hip hotels for those in the know.

L'Hotel Is Intimate Extravagence

What I find most charming about this hotel is despite being in the toniest of neighborhoods (St Germain) and attracting an elite clientele, the staff managed to be kind, courteous, and refreshingly unpretentious. The hotel also preserves an ambiance of intimacy and discretion, which I appreciate. -April Lane , from New York, United States - 6/25/2008
