Overview
Built in the 14th century as a Convent, Sofitel The Grand Amsterdam then went on to house the offices of the Amsterdam Admiralty. Known as one of the city's most deluxe hotels, guests like Mick Jagger and President Jacques Chirac of France made The Grand their home-away-from-home.
To walk through this hotel is to take a trip back through Amsterdam's past. The buildings have been at the heart of the life of the city for so long now, echoes of previous life and traces of a colonial past are glimpsed everywhere.
Ideally situated in the heart of Amsterdam's historic center, The Grand is set between two picturesque canals, just a stone's throw away from the key financial institutions and the famous Dam Square. Each of the 182 spacious and comfortable guest rooms have their own unique style, dictated in part by the original layout of the building that has been respected wherever possible.

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. The building is the original City Hall of Amsterdam. Lots of character and history. The staff were great -- fabulous concierge who sent us to wonderful restaurants. Amsterdam was a fabulous experience and we would return to this hotel again!
