The present Rue Cambon was built in 1719, joining the Jardin des Tuileries to the great boulevards. At that time, typical large 18th century private residences surrounded large courtyards. In 1910 Coco Chanel established her first workshops, which are still there today, at number 31, thus gaining world-wide recognition for the street in the 20th century.

Good Hotel With Some Minor Drawbacks

Hotel is perfectly situated in the Louvre area and ideal to get round Paris and for shopping (the boutiques of rue Sainte-Honoré are seconds away). Our room was comfortable (we were upgraded to the split-level 'duplex' suite) and very quiet. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was first class, although expensive if not included in the tariff.
Some minor drawbacks: our room was very hot, the headline prices are high (our suite was listed at over €1000 per night - as a result of booking online and the upgrade, we paid a third of that) and our room was slightly shabby and claustrophobic (in the duplex the space is all vertical rather than horizontal). Also, we had some water from the mini-bar that was obviously tap water in a bottle (it was sealed with a sticker, and with traces of previous stickers). We assumed we would not have to pay, but were surprised to see €9 on our bill. This was a rip-off, but to their credit the hotel did deduct the item when we protested.

THEN DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO THE *ARC DE TRIOMPHE* DRIVE AROUND IT AND DRIVE DOWN THE CHAMPS-ELYSEES UNTIL THE *PLACE DE LA CONCORDE*. THEN TURN LEFT TO REACH THE MADELEINE CHURCH. TURN RIGHT INTO THE BOULEVARD DE LA MADELEINE. THE RUE CAMBON IS THE SECOND STREET ON THE RIGHT.
