Overview
Beau-Rivage is the oldest hotel in private hands in Geneva and the last privately owned five star establishment. Built in 1865 by Jean-Jacques Mayer, it has been developed continuously to keep abreast of current tastes.

Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, Beau-Rivage is far more than a 5 star luxurious and efficiently run palace. It is an institution which has always kept its identity and therefore stands out today as one of the leaders in what the world of tourism most calls for : authenticity, a sense of belonging.

In a subtle alliance, tradition and contemporary reality coexist without ever giving in to compromise: a delicate balance between past and present on the one hand, and an acute sense of the need to prepare the future on the other. The hotel's smooth, discreet efficiency and attentive staff ensure that guests feel at home, whether conducting business, entertaining clients or friends, or organising an exhibition or a festival.

It is a very special meeting place. Since it opened, many royal personalities have stayed there, including Elizabeth, Empress of Austria, King Louis II of Bavaria, King George of Greece and the Grand Duke Peter of Russia, while others such as Prince Damrong of Siam and Emperor Akihito of Japan have passed through its doors. Nowadays, you might meet Prince Rainier and Princess Caroline of Monaco, Mrs. Danielle Mitterand, His Holiness the Dalai Lama or, just as likely, Catherine Deneuve or Alain Delon.

Having moved their offices within the walls of Beau-Rivage in 1987, Sotheby's decided to inaugurate the event with one of its most important auctions : the world famous sale of the Duchess of Windsor's jewels.

In 1990, Beau-Rivage celebrated its 125th anniversary with an exhibit of historical souvenirs, a sumptuous reception and an open-house day that was enjoyed by over 4'000 people.

In part due to its history, but more to a family passion of 137 years, the 4th generation of the Mayer Family today manages to preserve Beau-Rivage as a quiet oasis, in which the privileged traveler finds peace and tranquility through personal touch and true concern for his well-being. At once a service of deceptive simplicity and supreme competence.

Its 79 rooms and 14 suites are constantly upgraded and redecorated with exquisite taste to meet modern requirements, and 6 elegant function rooms which can cater for up to 1,200 guests. The concierge, who has been with the hotel for over 35 years, is a legend amongst his colleagues and president of the world wide « Clefs d'Or » association. A perfectly trained staff is highly motivated by a general management for whom this is not a job, but a mission, and where hospitality is more than a duty, it is an art executed with the greatest finesse. « Good service is a privilege » says Jacques Mayer, owner and managing director of Beau-Rivage, « it is just as much a privilege for those who are being served as for those who serve... the satisfaction of a job well done » .

In addition to the standard hotel services, Beau-Rivage offers a cozy bar, the Atrium, and first class gastronomic cuisine prepared at the Chat-Botté restaurant by the talented Chef, Dominique Gauthier. Guests may enjoy the most delicately flavoured and imaginative gourmet dishes, the finest wines kept stored in a century old cellar and a selection of rare cheeses, a pleasure both for the palate and the eye.

Further delightful moments can also be spent on the terrace overlooking the lake where the panorama of the city of Geneva and the Mont-Blanc mountain range unfold before the patron's eyes. For Beau-Rivage is a jewel placed in a setting of rare natural beauty, with a view to be seen in any weather: bright and smiling in the sunshine or intimate and inviting in the twilight at dawn or dusk.
