Overview
Zimbali Lodge is one of Southern Africa's most exclusive hideaways, set within the serene confines of a coastal forest reserve on the north coast of Kwa Zulu Natal - a natural sub-tropical paradise and home to mischievous dolphins and a myriad of sea and bird life. Stayed here on honeymoon.
Fabulous character, in touch with nature, excellent customer service & exquisite food & spa.
Very serene, just a shame one cannot swim at the private beach!

A TRUE Five-Star hotel with one of the best services I've ever seen.
If you want to go to the beaches you should rent a car, though.

Zimbali manages to transport you to a different world even though it's only 15 minutes away from the city. It definitely earns its tag-line of Forest Resort. As a result of careful planning and design, one gets the impression one is miles away from civilization from the moment you arrive. Even though we only stayed for one night (our anniversary), the experience made us feel like we had been there for a week, which is what I use to judge whether a holiday meets expectations or not. Service is friendly but slightly stiff. If you make peace with this, you'll be fine. We stayed in the Fairmont room, which was very well fitted out. The bathroom was very classy and the views from the balcony were quite picturesque. Dining was uneven. Although breakfast was excellent, supper was a disappointment - my dish was very complicated and quite underwhelming while my wife's salmon was too salty.

Directions:
From Durban International Airport / DIA:
Take the N2 North Coast and continue North to Stranger. Go through one tollgate /Tongaat Plaza/. About 5km after the tollgate take the Ballito/Compensation off-ramp. At the top of the off-ramp turn right towards Ballito. Drive approx. 1km until you get to a set of traffic lights and turn right onto the M4 back towards Durban. The entrance to Zimbali Lodge is situated 2km down the M4 on your left-hand side.
From Virginia Airport or Durban:
Take the M4 travelling north towards Ballito. From Durban you would pass Walter Gilbert Durban North Blue Lagoon and you would reach Virginia. From Virginia you would pass La Lucia Umhlanga Rocks La Mercy Desainager Tongaat and Westbrook. Zimbali Lodge is 5 minutes drive away from The Westbrook. On the right hand side opposite the Golf Course.
From Johannesburg:
Follow the N3 from Johannesburg to Durban /through Pietermaritzburg/. Take the N2 North Coast off-ramp and continue North to Stanger Go through one tollgate /Tongaat Plaza/. About 5km after the tollgate take the Ballito/Compensation off-ramp. At the top of the off-ramp turn right towards Ballito.
