Known as the Pearl of the Pacific, the gem-like island of Bora Bora was once the site of legendary stocks of coveted black pearls. Legend has it that the mesmerizing lagoon, on which Hotel Bora Bora is situated, was gifted by the god Oro with a stash of the black-lipped oyster, the mollusk that creates the shimmering black jewel of the sea.
One of the ultra luxurious Aman resorts, Hotel Bora Bora was the first hotel on the island to introduce over water bungalows, a magical architectural concept that has conjured up the ultimate island hideaway ever since. The 54 bungalows and farés are dotted throughout the resort's palm-laden tropical gardens, as well as beside three pristine white, soft sand beaches. Fourteen of the bungalows are stilted above the aqua lagoon sea, featuring a two-tiered sundeck and steps down to the water. Others enjoy a variety of settings from garden view, to palm and hammock lined beach front, while the farés, meaning ‘home' in Tahitian, are authentically designed in the spirit of an old trader's house. The resort is blessed with a thriving sea, bragging an array of fluorescent sea life, fantastical reefs, dreamy island excursions over land and sea, culminating into one of the world's most romantic island retreats.

Directions:
Hotel Bora Bora is located on the island of Bora Bora, 260km north-west of Papeete, the Tahitian capital. One of the many islands of French Polynesia in the South Pacific, Bora Bora is just 10km long and four kilometres wide with 32km of road encircling it.
Major airlines service Papeete from Los Angeles, which is only eight-and-a-half hours away. There are also direct flights from New York, Santiago, Honolulu, Paris, Sydney, Auckland and Tokyo.
Bora Bora is a 45-minute flight from Papeete. The local airport is on the Motu Motu islet jutting into the coral reef of the lagoon. The 20-minute transfer by speed boat is complimentary and a VIP airport express service is also available on request.
