Located on the Northern coastal plains of Puerto Rico, San Juan is the nation's capital and largest city. With a storied past and a folklore as vibrant as any in the Caribbean, San Juan has been the focal point of Puerto Rico for centuries.
Though formally settled in 1521 by Spanish colonists, San Juan was first discovered in 1508 by famed explorer Ponce de Leon who named the city in honor of St. John the Baptist.
Since the 16th century, San Juan has been a major point of departure for expeditions to the New World. Today, San Juan still calls to millions of tourists who arrive on its shores annually in search of its tropical atmosphere and cultural treasures.

Best Hotel in P.R. for Us!

The Ritz is not cheap by any means - even with the great deal we got through Perfect Escapes. That being said it is the only hotel for me in PR. We did visit several of the other properties and depending on your needs/wants (type of crowd, beach, balcony, service and restaurants on premises) you may enjoy one of those better.
For me there is no better service offered than at the Ritz. The folks there are very pleasant and actually appear to like their jobs! The rooms are very pretty and many of the rooms have a great view. Indeed they have some good restaurants (loved the steakhouse) but we did venture out to Old San Juan -loved Barrachino there, loved Perla at La Concha hotel. Old San Juan also has many different shopping areas - outlet stores and several local establishments and eateries along a great cobble stone street is pretty cool. As we were there both for business and pleasure we did know a few people. So for us it feels more and more like home each time we visit.
