Good but Pointless

Delhi desperately needs some more mid-price hotels. As a destination Delhi - like most of India - is these days an appalling smog-bound place. The only reason one would go there is for business rather than pleasure - so all the fussing and finishing that comes with five star hotels - and which one really only desires when you're on holiday - is nowadays really beside the point. The hotel had some great food and a good bar but of course they have you completely over a barrel and can, and do, charge essentially what they like. One American guy I was sitting next to was (naturally) horrified when he realized that he'd been charged US $25 for a flavored vodka on ice! The hotel management were very obsequious but the idea of providing customers with value for money as opposed to lavish excess is not on the agenda. After I had checked out I needed to make an international phone call - even in these days of Skype they felt nothing of charging me US $28 for 6 minutes.
