Overview
Conceived in romance, the palace was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II. The Taj Lake Palace, located in the middle of Lake Pichola is a dream of white marble and mosaic glistening in the moonlight, very reminiscent of the most beautiful tourist cliché in the world; The Taj Mahal.
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Aravalli Mountains on one side of the lake, and lofty palaces on the other, the Taj Lake Palace spreads across a four-acre island – an almost surreal vision in marble. The Royal Butlers descendents of the original palace retainers look after all contemporary comforts and ensure that all guests are treated like Royalty.

We greatly appreciated the welcome that we received and the rain of rose petals upon our arrival. It was suggested to us that we see "Octopussy" and we were very pleasantly surprised to receive Pepsi and hot popcorn, just like in the cinema. The kindness and the availability of the staff is much appreciated. One feels very at ease here. The food is excellent.

Fantastic hotel, fantastic service, especially from the kitchen staff where we had breakfast, the chef and restaurant manager were so kind, helpful and keen to please, creating an Indian sampler for us to try and sending us away with food to take sight seeing. In the spa, Geetanjali gave me the best massage I've ever had. When I then lost my camera (it was in my room!), the whole hotel seemed to know and was looking for it for me.
