Overview
This French colonial style building has stood proudly in the heart of Hanoi since 1901. Sofitel Legend Metropole has been Hanoi's legendary landmark since its establishment and has always proved a popular rendez-vous spot for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel has a number of restaurants and bars including Le Beaulieu Restaurant, Spices Garden Restaurant, Bamboo Bar, La Terrasse Du Metropole, Le Club Bar. The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, also boasts one of the finest health centres in Hanoi. The SOfit fitness centre has a well equipped international standard gym, as well as qualified instructors, massage therapists, exercise classes, a sauna and a jacuzzi.

Charming Hotel but Needs to Improve Service Standa

It's a lovely hotel with a lot of charm. The service standards are not high as most people who have stayed there have said. This is a real pity as it could be a class apart if their staff is more efficient and willing to go out of their way to serve like other top hotels, like Peninsula in Hong Kong for example. Service is a specialty of luxury hotels in Asia, and hence this comment. The front desk argued for 10 minutes with me about a change in booking dates done and confirmed by Perfect Escapes, first asking me to pay for an extra night and then trying to charge USD 15 extra for the change! We were expecting a car and did not know which of the two entrances it would come to - the concierge assured us they would keep a watch at both entrances and did not bother to inform the other entrance to keep a watch. Sure enough the car was waiting at the other entrance and I had to go and find it myself. The rooms in the new wing (where we stayed) are nice and the location is very good.

Old world charm combined with all modern facilities. Exceptional value staying in a Club room. Purchased in March on a forward discount rate but not billed until checking out so gained 20% plus in exchange rate decline in $US (rates quoted in $US). Close to the shopping precinct. Well trained and courteous staff. Currently staying at InterContinental Hanoi which is also excellent but 15% more expensive and lacks the atmosphere of the Metropole with the tariff charged in full on booking. I would strongly recommend the Sofitel Metropole to anyone visiting Hanoi as a luxurious sanctuary after a busy day sightseeing, shopping or conducting business, from the hustle and noise of the outside world.

The best beds I have ever slept in. Great location and extremely helpful staff who go out of their way to be perfect hosts. The food in the hotel was lovely and beautifully presented. An excellent mix of styles to choose from. Fabulous wines!!!
